Looking into ART 1. Juli 2026 | 17:30 Uhr - 19:00 Uhr
Android, the most popular mobile operating system, is quite peculiar in its architecture: It’s running Linux, but doesn’t run the usual Linux programs. Apps are written in Java and Kotlin, but there is no JVM. Even the apps are distributed as Dalvik code, but there is no more Dalvik Virtual Machine either! Just what is going on inside the phones?
We’ll start with a quick recap what brought us this complex system of the Android Runtime (ART). And then we will peek inside: from looking at source code to reverse-engineered APIs we’ll explore not just how the ART works, but also what it can do for security research and software engineers.

His work lies at the intersection of ART and privacy, touching on binary analysis, app reversing, and getting academiaware to run properly. When not researching or teaching, he thinks about cats, synthesizers, or space.
