Working with templates in eLabFTW and beyond 17. August 2026 | 09:00 Uhr - 12:00 Uhr
This interactive workshop focuses on the effective use of templates in laboratory documentation, with a particular emphasis on the eLabFTW system. Participants will explore the benefits and challenges of implementing standardised templates within their research groups or institutions, and learn how to leverage tools like controlled vocabularies and metadata schemas (e.g., DataCite) to enhance documentation practices.
The workshop begins with an introduction to eLabFTW, its features for template creation, and the goals of the session. Through a combination of live demonstrations, group discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will compare existing templates, identify best practices, and work on harmonising their own templates to ensure consistency while maintaining discipline-specific requirements.
Key topics include:
- The role of templates in standardising documentation
- Customisation options in eLabFTW, including custom fields and team-specific configurations
- Practical exercises to refine and document templates
- The importance of metadata and controlled vocabularies in template design
By the end of the workshop, participants will gain practical insights and tools to create effective templates, as well as a guide for implementing these templates within their own workflows. This session is ideal for researchers, data managers, and laboratory staff seeking to improve documentation practices in their institutions.
