Antrittsvorlesung von Prof. Dr.-Ing. Simona Silvestri 8. Mai 2024 | 17:00 Uhr - 18:00 Uhr
Inaugural lecture „Orbital Symphony: Orchestrating technologies for a sustainable space transportation system“
In recent years, the space sector has undergone a significant transformation, moving towards a more cost-effective economy. This shift has welcomed the emergence of NewSpace investors and created new opportunities for the deployment of satellite constellations. However, innovative strategies and key technologies must be developed to meet the demands of this new competitive environment. In her inaugural lecture, Simona Silverstri will outline the key technologies that are essential for the future and how these innovations must work together to realise the collective vision of a sustainable space transportation system.
Bio: Simona Silvestri studied aerospace engineering at the University of Pisa (Italy) and obtained her PhD from the Technical University of Munich (Germany) on heat transfer and injector design criteria for methane/oxygen rocket combustors. She worked for several years at the Ariane Group (Ottobrunn) as a systems engineer on the development of flight valves for the Ariane 6 launcher. In recent years, she has held the position of technology manager and coordinator at Airbus Defence and Space (Manching) in the field of electronic warfare. In May 2023, she was appointed Professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig, where she heads the Institute of Space Systems. In her new role, she is focusing research on cryogenic in-space propulsion, reusable launchers and improving space management services.
