Delivering university courses to international students in English can be challenging if English is not your first language. There may be issues around fluency, confidence, clarity of communication.
There will also be an opportunity for each participant to bring in a piece of teaching material for 1-2-1 feedback from the native English-speaking trainer, Andrew Weale, who is himself an experienced university lecturer.
The course will be delivered in English and there will be a range of practical activities, such as discussion, peer teaching, and delivery of mini presentations in English to ensure that participants practise their English language skills in a fully immersive way.
Inhalte & Lernziele:
This two-day virtual workshop is specially designed to help lecturers who are non-native English speakers:
- improve their English language competencies
- communicate more effectively in English with students
- build their confidence when using English in lectures and seminars
This course is highly interactive and practical. It will include input on:
- EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) and the challenges it presents
- fundamental teaching skills, such as delivering clear and effective instructions to students
- communicating clearly in English through the voice, with a focus on pacing and articulation
- key presentation skills, such as
– sign-posting language
– explaining and exemplifying
