► The rainbow flag is being raised
The TUmorrow Days are taking place next week – time to send a clear signal in support of a diverse Campus. The Diversity Office invites you to join President Prof. Angela Ittel in raising the rainbow flag on 10 June: the event starts at 1 pm on the University Square.
► Prof. Katja Koch to become the new President of the University of Hildesheim
The TU education researcher is set to become President of the University of Hildesheim Foundation on 1 January 2027. The Senate and the Foundation Board unanimously approved her candidacy. Congratulations!
► The human factor on the digital construction site
How can digital technologies improve construction processes without losing sight of the people on the construction site and the physical and mental strain they face? Researchers, under the headship of Dr Bartłomiej Sawicki from the Institute of Structural Design, are investigating this in the project “Centre for Digital and Integrated Construction Processes”.
► World-record performance
Prof. Uta Schlickum and her research group from the Institute of Applied Physics have built a unique photon scanning tunnelling microscope. With it, they capture ten times more light than comparable systems worldwide.
► Analytics for the food of the future
Since April, Prof. Marina Creydt has been Professor of Instrumental Analysis in Food Chemistry. In an interview, she explains how modern mass spectrometric methods help to detect food fraud and investigate the climate impacts of plant-based foods.
► Fulbright Scholar at the Institute of Genetics
Mia Kantorovich is researching the role of a protein in the defence against coronavirus and herpes viruses. During her time at TU Braunschweig, she has not only come to appreciate the collaborative working environment, but also some German customs.
► European training tool for change agents
The Department of Business Ethics, Sustainability and Social Change, in collaboration with Spanish researchers as part of the European PRO‑CLIMATE project, has further developed a training course for change agents. The Media Lab was also involved in this.
► Inaugural lecture
Prof. Thomas Thüm, Institute of Software Engineering and Vehicle Informatics, will deliver his inaugural lecture, “How does the software in my car age?”, on 9 June.
► Debut for Dedekind Colloquium
The Department of Mathematics has secured Prof. Barbara Niethammer from the University of Bonn for the opening event on 12 June. The first event in the new lecture series is dedicated to TU Professor Michael Herrmann, who passed away two years ago.
► Registration opens for professional and personnel development’s training programmes
In the second half of 2026, the ZPE is once again offering a wide range of opportunities for our university’s staff. Registration opens on 10 June at 9 am (GradTUBS) and on 15 June at 10 am (Staff development for all employees).
► Help shape Germany’s High-Tech Agenda now
… by taking part in the online survey organised by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. All views and ideas are welcome.
► How do gender, age and background shape our perception of the city?

► Discover prickly beauties
… on 14 June at the Cactus and Succulent Exchange organised by the German Cactus Society. Alongside extraordinary plants, the extension of the Botanical Garden will offer snacks, drinks and a raffle with great prizes. Admission is free.
► The dome at the Haus der Wissenschaft is shining again
After four years in darkness, the beacon of knowledge on the Main Campus is shining again at night. Many thanks to the Braunschweig Industry Club, iTUBS and President of TU Braunschweig Prof. Angela Ittel for the initiative!
► Call for tender: “Climate Change, Justice, Society: Just Transition”
For up to six years, zukunft.niedersachsen will fund consortia comprising scientific research facilities and industry partners with up to five million euros. Applications are now open – further information will be provided at an event hosted by the Centre for Climate Research on 16 June.
► Our darling of the week
… even comes up with ideas for new microchips in her sleep: Dr Liubov Bakhchova is developing mini-laboratory systems at the Institute of Microtechnology and the Institute for CMOS Design that could make animal testing obsolete in the future. To this end, she bridges the gaps between microtechnology, electronics and biology on a daily basis – and is constantly asking new questions.
