► Water damage at the E-Technik building

Hot water combined with freezing temperatures caused water damage over six floors at the Electrical Engineering Building last Sunday. It will be a long time before all labs and rooms are fully functional again. We keep our fingers crossed that they can quickly return to work as usual..

► No secret: exchange about research project

This week, some media and interested parties have tried to instrumentalise TU Braunschweig against the European organisation Frontex. We took a stand on this.

► Eliminating space debris with gecko adhesive material – experiments on ISS successful

With their gecko-inspired docking mechanism, the Astrobee robots are to remove space debris, among other things, in the future. In December 2020, the mechanism, developed at the TU Braunschweig, was successfully demonstrated in space.

► In Pursuit of the intangible

In theory, Majorana bound states are considered to be nearly perfect qubits, the bits of a quantum computer. In practice, however, it has not yet been proven that these particles even exist. Professor Patrik Recher and his team are about to change that.

► Mobility: Application for hydrogen center at Braunschweig-Salzgitter location

Allianz für die Region GmbH, together with Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFF), has submitted a concept sketch for a hydrogen center to the BMVI. The planned center is to become a think tank, development center and practical campus.ue.

► Long-lasting immune response possible in COVID-19 patients

The team around Professor Michael Hust and Professor Stefan Dübel and their partners of the EU consortium ATAC (Antibody Therapy Against Corona) have published results of investigations on the longevity of the immune response of COVID-19 patients.

► Schoduvel without Schoduvel

Architecture students from the Institute of Architecture Related Art (IAK) moved through Braunschweig on Shrove Monday wearing spiky costumes. These body transformations on “Keeping your distance in Corona times” were created in the Schoduvel seminar of Sina Heffner and Bernd Schulz.

► Neural Art Contest

In the “Advanced Practice Course Data Science” of the Institute of Analysis and Algebra, students have produced unusual images by “Neural Style Transfer”, transferring the style of a painting to a photograph. You can vote on the 24 images now.

► How viruses use cells

Christian Sieben is the new assistant professor for cell biology of viral infections. He researches how viruses and cells interact – and combines that with a circus tent and an orange.

► Close final in the Carolo cup@home

Spoileralert! The Cup goes to Karlsruhe. The small autonomously driving Dr. Drift came out on top by a razor-thin margin. The beauty of the digital format is that anyone who missed it can still catch up.

► 75 scholarships

24/7 and 365 days a year on duty for TU Braunschweig. Actually, our facility management could book a permanent flat rate as darling of the week. In addition to the countless background tasks, there have recently been tons of snow and an emergency operation in the water-soaked E-Technik Tower. Thank you for being around!
