Shakespeare meets the media world TUBS Players present a modern take on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

What would Shakespeare’s famous “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” look like today? The TUBS Players provide the answer in this year’s theatre production, “Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream(s)”. The English-speaking theatre group from Technische Universität Braunschweig will perform the multimedia play from 19 to 21 June 2026 at the North Campus.

Drawing inspiration from a series of creative Shakespeare adaptations, the Braunschweig production combines classic Shakespearean elements with modern media, music, and dance. The theatre ensemble transposes the comedy, which is set in ancient Athens and an enchanted forest, to the present day. This English-language classic, which explores the confusion of human emotions, depicts the familiar characters in a contemporary office setting. For example, Nick Bottom, the weaver, becomes Nicholas Bottomson, the popular intern at an ambitious media company. But what pranks are his mischievous colleagues planning for him?

More than theatre: The TUBS Players

The TUBS Players have existed for over 30 years and are the English-language theatre ensemble of the Institute of English and American Studies at TU Braunschweig. Under the direction of Dr Maria Marcsek-Fuchs, students collaborate on theatre productions. The group is open to students from all fields of study, both on stage and behind the scenes. As well as acting, members are involved in directing, set design, choreography, public relations and event organisation. In recent years, they have developed Shakespeare adaptations, literary productions, and digital theatre formats, among other things.
