TU Cluster of Excellence at the International Aerospace Exhibition
The Cluster of Excellence for Sustainable Aviation (SE²A) at Technische Universität Braunschweig is presenting its research activities at the International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA) in Berlin. The trade fair, which takes place from 5 to 9 June 2024 at the BER airport, is one of the world’s most important meetings of the aerospace industry and makes a significant contribution to the development and networking of the sector.
This year’s ILA will focus on the future of aerospace, with a special emphasis on innovation, new technologies and sustainability, including carbon-neutral aviation. Since 2019 the research project “SE²A – Sustainable and Energy Efficient Aviation” at TU Braunschweig has been looking at the future of air transport and how it can be organised efficiently. SE²A will be exhibiting in the joint chalet of Niedersachsen, Bayern and Northern Germany (Chalets East 22 – 24) in Berlin.
“The ILA offers an excellent opportunity to discuss the results of the past almost five years of SE²A with the industry and the aviation community as a whole,” said Prof. Jens Friedrichs, spokesman for the aviation cluster at TU Braunschweig.
Around 140 scientists from the fields of aviation research, electrical engineering, energy research and design work in the cluster. Their aim is to drastically reduce the energy consumption and emissions of aircraft, to reduce noise pollution, to develop tailor-made air traffic management and to carry out a holistic assessment in terms of resource consumption and climate impact.
TU Braunschweig works closely with aviation experts from Germany and the Netherlands in the cluster. Partners include Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), Braunschweig University of Art (HBK), the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).
