TU Braunschweig ranks amongst the world’s top 200 universities in three fields of study Particularly strong: Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering

Technische Universität Braunschweig has successfully secured a place in the new Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) by Shanghai Ranking in a total of six disciplines: Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering. The research ranking is compiled annually by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. It analyses data from more than 2,000 universities worldwide across a total of 57 academic subjects.

TU Braunschweig has been particularly successful in the field of study Aerospace Engineering. As in the previous year, it ranks in the 51–75 range globally and third in Germany (2025: fourth). TU Braunschweig has also achieved strong results in the disciplines of Telecommunications Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering, ranking in the 151–200 range globally and fifth in Germany in each case.

In the field of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, TU Braunschweig has also improved its ranking from the 201–300 range last year to the 151–200 range in the current ranking. In the field of Computer Science & Engineering, TU Braunschweig is ranked in the 401–500 range in the international comparison.

Strong results in the natural and life sciences

TU Braunschweig has also succeeded in securing a strong position in the international university rankings in the natural and life sciences: In the two fields of study, Chemistry and Biological Sciences, it ranks in the 401–500 range in the global comparison.

The positions in the prestigious Shanghai Subject Ranking once again underline the research strength and international visibility of TU Braunschweig, particularly in its core areas: engineering, natural sciences and life sciences.

About the ranking

The Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) is compiled and published annually by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. The research performance of universities is assessed on the basis of nine indicators across five categories. These include scientific publications in leading academic journals, highly cited researchers, international collaborations and significant scientific prizes and awards, among other things.
