With the beginning of the lecture-free period, a very different summer semester is drawing to a close. For this reason the President, Professor Anke Kaysser-Pyzalla and the Vice-President for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Knut Baumann, would like to thank all involved for their great commitment. In a video message, they wish all students success for the upcoming examination phase, and in a second video, present an outlook on the winter semester 2020/21.

► Valuable stock of data

Our university receives threefold funding for contributions to the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), which shall be errected with annual 90 million euros until 2028. The TU Braunschweig is involved in the consortia NFDI4Cat, NFDI4Chem and NFDI4Ing.

► Researching the fight against global crimes

Institutions against drug dealing, piracy and the financing of terrorism: Professor Anja Jacobi is researching the fight against global crimes at the Institute of International Relations. Now she published an exciting overview.

► When do diagonal cracks occur in bridges?

Better evaluation of aging bridges to reinforce them: Dr. Sara Javidmehr completed her doctorate in the Research Training Group 2075 “Modelling the constitutive evolution of building materials and structures with respect to aging”. We introduce the graduate with a short portrait.

► From zero to terahertz in three years

How to build a microscope that is worldwide unique? Marco Tollkühn found support by his colleagues in the Research Training Group “NanoMet”. Now he stands beside the almost finished terahertz-microscope in the Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology (LENA).

► Academic Goldmedal

We congratulate Dr. Jacob Stolle for the Governor General’s Gold Medal, the highest Canadian award for students. The civil engineer was doing his PhD at the Leichtweiß-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources and the University of Ottawa on tsunami-resistant infrastructure.

► A drone as parking assistant

On Thursday, about 160 students presented their semester projects at the “Young Software Developers’ Day”. Next to the “ParkDrone” there were also a rescue robot and virtual escape rooms.

► The digitally flying lecture hall takes off

One-way from Hannover to Frankfurt: Two pilots explained every move while flying in the cockpit simulator of the Institute of Flight Guidance. Students of the lecture on flight guiding systems joined the flight via livestram and experienced their lecture material in practice.

► App-Excursion through Braunschweig

Would you like to explore Braunschweig and learn something about public transportation? Then start the App-Excursion of the Institute of Transport, Railway Construction and Operation. The three-kilometer paper chase was designed by Sophia Giere and Jan Peter Heemsoth.

► Digital Poetry Lectureship

In two video sequences author and dramatist Sasha M. Salzmann and her guest discuss highly topical issues. It is the first time, the Ricarda Huch Poetics Lectureship for Gender in the Literary World is presented digital.

► Fundings for postdocs

The Marie-S-Curie Individual Fellowship supports one to three year research stays for postdocs. No matter whether you apply at the TU Braunschweig as an international fellow or from here to a foreign country: Apply by September 9, 2020 together with the host institution. The Research Service and European Office will help you with an online training course in the application process.
