► Lower Saxony Science Prize for Professor Stefanie Kroker and Michael Perk

We congratulate Stefanie Kroker and Michael Perk very much! The Professor of Physics Stefanie Kroker, receives the prize for young scientists, endowed with 20,000 euros. In our Magazin she explains how she manipulates light until it fits the future quantum computer of Quantum Valley Lower Saxony. The Master’s student Michael Perk was also honoured for his commitment to founding the research platform “Collabovid” and his professional achievements. Congratulations!

► From the National University Seoul to TU Braunschweig

We welcome Dr. Yuna Kwon from South Korea. The Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow will spend two years researching dust particles of comets and asteroids at the Institute of Geophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics.

► Making air traffic better with business studies and mathematics

There are various ideas for making future air traffic more sustainable. But what would be the impact on air transport if, for example, electric mobility were to be subsidised or a paraffin tax introduced? This is what Dr. Imke Joormann is researching together with her junior research group in the SE2A cluster of excellence.

► School internships in homeschooling

School internships are an important part of the teacher training programme for student teachers. But the corona pandemic has changed a lot here as well. We spoke to Dr. Claudia Schünemann, who coordinates the internships, about the challenges and the Lern Buddies project.

► Sprinting out of the data jungle

The results of the doctorate are ready for publication, but the research data look more like a digital laundry pile? The team of the Service Centre for Research Data Management helps you to create ordered data sets in one day in the “Research Data Sprint“.

► New DFG measures to promote equal opportunities in science

The new measures provide, for example, a budget for spokespersons of coordinated procedures. A lump sum of 80,000 euros per funding year can be requested. The aim of the budget for spokespersons is to provide an incentive for persons of a gender that is underrepresented in the respective discipline to take over the management office.

► NFL Research Day 2020 on the energy turnaround in aviation

The Lower Saxony Research Centre for Aviation will hold its annual NFL Research Day – online – on Monday, 23 November 2020 from 09:00 to 11:15. The programme is dedicated to the “Energy turnaround in aviation”.

► New shape, new patterns

The Further Education Centre now offers fabric masks in two versions and a large colourful selection. The mouth-nose protection with TU logo was produced by a regional supplier.

► Darling of the week

Our darling of the week unofficially but visibly starts a countdown: In 34 days it will be Christmas and the Christmas tree on University Square is just waiting to be lit. The tree is also decorating our Instagram channel and we can almost smell the Christmas biscuits…
