The theme of this year’s award was ‘My hospital is closing – what now? – Strengthening primary healthcare’. Johannes Quirin impressed the jury with his proposal to repurpose St Elisabeth Hospital in Salzgitter-Bad into a versatile health campus that combines education, care, accommodation and the local community.
Julia Mack’s design, “Campus together”, gives the former hospital a positive role as an open haven. It is intended to create a reliable point of contact, particularly for people in need of support, combining community, counselling, therapy, education and supported accommodation, and enabling individually tailored assistance.
The award-winning projects were developed as part of a Master’s thesis at the Institute for Constructive Design, Industrial and Healthcare Architecture (IKE).
