Prof. Bernd Engel re-elected to the FNN Forum for a further term of office

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Engel of the elenia Institute for High-Voltage Engineering and Energy Systems at the Technische Universität Braunschweig has been re-elected to the Forum for Network Technology and Network Operations (FNN) within the VDE for the term from 2027 to 2029. He is one of two representatives from the academic community on this supervisory board.

The FNN within the VDE brings together the expertise of grid operators, manufacturers, plant operators, planners, researchers and other stakeholders in the energy sector. The aim is to jointly develop technical rules, requirements and recommendations for the safe, reliable and sustainable operation of electricity grids. In doing so, the FNN creates important conditions for the integration of renewable energy, the increasing digitalisation and automation of grid operations, and the transformation of the energy system.

The Forum is the FNN’s central strategic body. It supports and steers the technical work and provides impetus for the further development of grid technology and grid operations. Prof. Engel’s re-election underlines the importance of scientific expertise and close collaboration between research and practice in the further development of electricity grids.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Engel is one of two directors of the elenia Institute for High Voltage and Energy Systems at the Technische Universität Braunschweig. His core research areas include the integration of renewable energies, power-electronic grid components, smart grids, and the stability and operation of future electrical energy systems.
