Sustainable aviation research for pupils Register now for the research club "changING" of the Cluster of Excellence SE²A!

The research club changING of the Cluster of Excellence SE²A – Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation at TU Braunschweig will begin a new round after the autumn holidays. Pupils in grades ten to twelve can register now. changING offers fascinating insights into research for sustainable aviation and the chance to do research and experiments yourself. One of changING’s goals is to get girls in particular interested in technical topics. Therefore, the team would like to especially encourage female pupils to apply.

The groups meet every other week during the school year on an afternoon for two hours. In the first year of research, events and workshops in the areas of acoustics, simulation, programming and design are on the programme. Practical and independent work is a priority at changING—for example in CAD and 3D printing workshops or experiments in the wind tunnel. Students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering accompany the groups as mentors.

“The concept has proven to be extremely successful. This summer we were able to say goodbye to graduates of the first changING cohort, who actively participated in the research club over a period of four years and completed their own research projects with great success,” reports Dina Al-Kharabsheh, research associate at the Institute of Didactics of Natural Sciences at TU Braunschweig.

It is wonderful that many of these graduates are now starting STEM degree programmes. “With changING, we do not only offer insights into technical and scientific courses of study, but also provide practical orientation for future career choices”.

In the past four years, more than 90 pupils have already taken part in the research club – in cooperation with twelve facilities and institutes of TU Braunschweig. changING is recognised by many schools as an AG (club) and also offers the opportunity to write research papers under supervision.

About “changING”

The research club “changING” of the Cluster of Excellence SE²A – Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation at TU Braunschweig started for the first time in October 2019. Pupils from the tenth grade onwards get the chance to research and experiment independently. In addition, they learn about technical degree programmes and professions in the core research area of “Mobility” at TU Braunschweig in a practical way. The young people are accompanied until they graduate from high school if they want to stay with the project for the entire four years.
