Young Software Developers’ Day: Intelligent PDF search agent takes the prize Students present their projects

Around 200 students from the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Computer Science, Business Informatics and Information Systems Engineering at Technische Universität Braunschweig presented the results of this year’s Software Development Placement at the ‘Young Software Developers’ Day’ (TdSE) on 16 July 2026. A jury comprising experts from academia, industry and the student body assessed the projects and awarded prizes to the three best teams.

The winning teams

First place went to the team from the Institute of Artificial Intelligence for the project ‘CoDex – Your Intelligent PDF Search Agent’. In this project, the students implemented an AI tool for searching within PDF documents. Users could ask the tool questions on the topic in question, whereupon the AI generated answers that were directly accompanied by a cited reference.

The Institute of Communications Engineering took second place with the project ‘FindMe@Campus: AI-Driven Indoor Localisation Using Wi-Fi’. The students in this group developed software that can determine a user’s location within a building using various Wi-Fi signals. Among other things, the project has attracted considerable interest from the university administration and is now potentially set to be taken forward.

Third place went to the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science with the project ‘Gold Ship – Become the best at logic’. The student team demonstrated how the concept of formal automata can be made easier to understand through a game.

The Software Development Placement (SEP)

As part of this year’s Software Development Placement, around 200 students from ten institutes worked on 33 projects, thereby gaining practical experience in developing complex software projects. They were supported by their respective institutes throughout the process, from planning and implementation through to completion and testing of the systems. The SEP was offered this summer term by the Institute for Software Engineering and Automotive Informatics.
