► Antibodies against smallpox
The EU project THANATOS is launching the pre-clinical and clinical development of therapeutic antibodies against smallpox viruses. With funding of 13.5 million euros, the aim is to develop a specific treatment for “monkeypox” (Mpox) and human smallpox.
► Ensuring climate-friendly energy reaches aircraft
… researchers from our university, Leibniz University Hannover, the Technical University of Hamburg and Bauhaus Luftfahrt are developing scenarios as part of the TRANS-AIR project to secure the energy supply for the German aviation sector. The Institute for Automotive Economics and Industrial Production is coordinating the project.
► More efficient batteries for aviation
As part of the ELEVATE project, TU Braunschweig is developing new processes for more powerful and sustainable battery cells. Dry coating and in-situ polymerisation are intended to reduce energy consumption, the carbon footprint and production costs – important steps towards electrified aviation.
► Marine research as a safeguard for the future
At the “MeerZukunft” parliamentary evening organised by the German Alliance for Marine Research (DAM) on 6 October in Hanover, researchers from member institutions came together with representatives from politics, business and civil society. “Energy from the sea” was the focus of the lecture given by Prof. Nils Goseberg from the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources.
► ZESS opens: TU Braunschweig and Fraunhofer strengthen technology transfer
With the opening of the Fraunhofer ZESS at the Braunschweig Research Airport, TU Braunschweig and Fraunhofer are expanding their collaboration: covering some 3,300 square metres, it offers researchers state-of-the-art infrastructure for the development of solid-state batteries and hydrogen technologies – with the aim of bringing scientific results into industrial application more quickly.
► Speculative Cultures: Retelling the Future
With her series of workshops on “Speculative Cultures”, Aylin Dilek Walder from the Institute of English and American Studies is bringing together researchers from various disciplines to discuss the potential of speculative fiction. In this interview, she explains why fantastical stories reveal a surprising amount about our present.
► Welcome for first-year students: A stadium full of promise
On 19 October at 9 am, TU Braunschweig will welcome its new students at the Eintracht Stadium. From 10.30 am, the programme continues on the central Campus: at the information fair “Studying is more than just …”, over 60 stands will showcase all that studying in Braunschweig has to offer.
► Emerging Tech Fellow Paulina Tarara invites you to a discussion
How do AI systems influence our actions, decision-making, knowledge and creativity – and how does our use of these systems shape their further development? No prior knowledge is required for the English-language workshop with the researcher from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice; simply pop along to the Science and Art Lab on 22 October. Please register with the Emerging Tech Lab.
► Save the date: University Information Day 2027
On 21 May 2027, our Campus will once again become a hub for numerous prospective students. Anyone wishing to register with programme items has until 30 November to do so. Questions can be clarified during the next digital open consultation session on 3 November.
► Survey on support needs for digital research methods and AI
Researchers have until 16 October to take part in the anonymous survey run by the Digital Science Support Space Lower Saxony (DS³) project. Based on the results, the project is developing support services for researchers at 14 higher education institutions and universities in Lower Saxony.
► Information Day: New Horizon Europe calls totalling 1.1 billion euros
Whilst the “Nature” calls focus on research topics in the life sciences, the “Bridging” calls are designed to support various fields of study in the transition from the current Horizon Europe Framework Programme to the next one. Submission deadlines begin in January 2027. Those interested can find out more at an information session on 16 October.
► A digital bouquet
… is being presented by the Ecoversity Hub team to everyone who took part in the Ecoversity Expedition and shared their initiatives with the region in early October. Thank you very much!
► Our darling of the week
Over the next eight months, the Staatstheater in Braunschweig will be regularly raising the curtain on science! After all, there’s a great deal of it behind theatre productions. The new series of events, “WAS IST WAS”, organised by the Science and Art Lab and the Staatstheater, shows just how much.
