► President Angela Ittel wins Femtec Award
Last week, our President Professor Angela Ittel received the Femtec Award in the Leadership category. We warmly congratulate! “I am deeply honored to have received this award, which means a lot to me,” says the President. “A great thank you to all my supporters!”
► Information on dealing with the energy crisis
… has been sent by the Vice President for Human Resources, Finance and Infrastructure, Dietmar Smyrek, by email to all members of our university. The aim is to reduce energy consumption and thus conserve gas reserves and mitigate cost increases. ► Creating community
“Opportunities for personal communication are very important for the development of our university,” emphasizes President Professor Angela Ittel. Therefore, after the successful Diversity Day and the festive reception for the staff, the Executive Board invited the professors to a late summer reception.
► Core research area “Infection and Therapeutics” renamed
The TU CRA “Infections and Agents” is now called “Engineering for Health – from Molecules to Processes”. Professor Martin Korte, the new spokesperson of the CRA, about the reboot.
► Future Lab for Water starts
… at the Centre for Digital Innovations Lower Saxony (ZDIN). The aim is to make water management sustainable, resource-conserving and efficient. The state and the Volkswagen Foundation are providing 3.7 million euros for this purpose.
► Challenges of Unprecedented Extreme Weather Events
The impacts of floods and droughts can be reduced through appropriate risk management. An international study in which Professor Kai Schröter of the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources was involved has now led to important findings from past extreme events.
► Video: “Space Transport – Launch Opportunities for Germany”
After Air Taxis, the NFL Aerospace Forum dealt with the topic of transport into space. Experts from research and industry were guests an talked about carrier systems, new fuels, space ports in Europe and air launches.
► Aspiring astronaut Dr Insa Thiele-Eich as guest
The foundation “Braunschweigische Stiftung” was able to win Dr Insa Thiele-Eich for two lectures on 23 Sep. At 10 am, Thiele-Eich will give a lecture especially for students; at 6 pm, she will talk about her life as an astronaut, full-time scientist, local politician and mother.
► TU Braunschweig involved in NASA mission to the Jupiter system
Measuring instruments for the “Europa Clipper” mission are calibrated in the unique “Magnetsrode” laboratory. Specifically, this involves magnetometers that help to explore the electromagnetic processes inside Jupiter’s moon Europa.
► From CSE student to university founder
As one of the first students to enrol in the Computational Sciences in Engineering (CSE) degree programme, Christian Kouam came to our university in 2000. In his home country Cameroon, he has now founded a university himself and is still closely connected to TU Braunschweig today.
► Visiting researcher from USA at the ISU
The Institute for Sustainable Urbanism (ISU) welcomes another international guest: Professor Jesus J. Lara from the Ohio State University is coming to Braunschweig with a DAAD and a Fulbright scholarship and will be researching the influences of migration movement on sustainable urban planning.
► Access to the university network in public space
The state of Lower Saxony is funding the “Eduroam off Campus” project of the “Hochschule.digital Niedersachsen” association. The aim is to enable location-independent and flexible studying and working at universities and to make wifi available beyond the traditional university environment. TU Braunschweig is receiving 750,000 euros for this project.
► Searching for clues in the Mega-City
For ten days, students of environmental sciences and physics investigated urban ecosystems in Mexico City. The study trip was organised by Dr Liseth Pérez from the Institute for Geosystems and Bioindication and Professor Matthias Bücker from the Institute for Geophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics.
► A LeoPARD in the Lion City
Digital library, publication server, institutional research data repository: Our publication server has had different names in the more than 20 years of its existence. But they meant the same thing. Now, publications and research data have found their new home on LeoPARD.
► Let’s Do It Again!
The ProDiGI funding line to support digital international teaching is once again open for applications; the deadline for submissions is 1 November 2022. On 23 September 2022, the project team will provide information on all questions regarding the call for proposals and the funding line. This will be followed by the closing event of the first funding round, which is open to all university members.
► ProcessNet medals awarded to deserving process engineers
During the annual conference of ProcessNet, a platform for process engineering, chemical engineering and technical chemistry, the ProcessNet Medals were awarded – for example to Professor Stephan Scholl and Professor Arno Kwade. The medals are awarded for outstanding work in basic research or for application in industrial practice.
► Digital Bouquet
A digital bouquet of flowers is given to training coordinator Tim Landherr. The colourful bouquet was presented to him by his former trainees on his departure from TU Braunschweig. They thank him for the very good training to become administrative assistants, the great training coordination and the pleasant training period and wish him all the best for the future!
► Darling of the week
Our darling of the week is the Agnes Pockels Laboratory. Since 2002, the lab has been arousing interest in science among children and young people of all ages with exciting experiments. On Wednesday, it celebrated its 20th anniversary. Congratulations! More on this in next week’s magazine.
