Summer schools are in season! Intensive, international and practice-oriented: summer schools at TU Braunschweig
This year, the Technical University of Braunschweig is once again hosting a series of summer schools on a range of topics. These programmes offer early-career researchers and students the opportunity to engage intensively with specialised topics and gain valuable practical experience. They not only promote specialist knowledge, but also intercultural skills, as they often attract international participants. In addition, summer schools offer an excellent platform for networking and exchanging ideas with experts from the industry. They can also serve as a springboard for future academic or professional projects.

The DLR_Uni_Summer_School is a unique event in Germany organised by aviation universities and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). Participants have the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice during research flights and in the DLR simulator, systematically record and evaluate data, and present their findings at the end of the event. For one week, they follow in the footsteps of flight test engineers, who accompany them and provide exclusive insights.
The research flights take place with the Cessna F406 ‘D-ILAB’ of the Institute of Flight Guidance at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Cessna 208B ‘D-FDLR’ Grand Caravan of the DLR. In addition, lectures and facilities at the Braunschweig Research Airport can be visited. The event not only serves to deepen and test the theoretical knowledge acquired, but also to get to know each other, gain an insight into the field and network.

Automotive Circular Economy Summer School
The one-week Automotive Circular Economy Summer School at the joint Wolfsburg campus provides practical insights into resource-efficient production processes in automotive engineering. Professors from the TU Braunschweig and Ostfalia University combine current research with workshops, experiments and simulation games.
The venue is the Open Hybrid LabFactory, an interdisciplinary research campus for automotive circular economy. Excursions to regional industry partners provide opportunities for direct exchange with company representatives. Through practical experiments and analyses, participants acquire the necessary know-how to implement resource-efficient concepts and successfully meet future challenges in the industry.

The International Summer School: Advanced Sustainable Aviation Technologies combines theoretical expertise with practical project work and promotes exchange with international fellow students from a wide range of disciplines. Participants gain insights into both research and current debates surrounding sustainable aviation. The programme is divided into two phases: The virtual phase comprises lectures by professors from TU Braunschweig, partner universities and experts from the aviation industry on fundamental methods and technologies. This is followed by the face-to-face phase in Braunschweig, where in-depth lectures are held and an interdisciplinary practical project is carried out under the guidance of the teaching staff. The programme is complemented by a supporting programme that introduces the research airport, TU facilities, nearby partner companies such as Volkswagen and a local brewery, and leaves plenty of time for independent exploration of the city.
One of the aims of the summer school is to inspire young students to take an interest in all aspects of sustainable and energy-efficient aviation and to motivate them to pursue a scientific career in this field.

Summer School “Cellular Metabolism”
The Summer School at the Institute of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at the Technical University of Braunschweig introduces participants to metabolic flux analysis, a method in which nutrients are labelled with stable isotopes and can be precisely tracked in the metabolism. The practical course allows participants to use this innovative methodology developed by the Braunschweig research team to directly observe how nutrients are converted into different substances and the rates at which these processes occur.
The laboratory at the TU Braunschweig is internationally recognised for its expertise in metabolic flux analysis and is one of the leading institutions in this field. As one of the few German working groups offering these methods, it is also a partner in the research network ‘HyperMet: Effects of muscle hypertrophy and atrophy on metabolic health’ (TUM, LMU, Helmholtz Munich, MPI).

This summer school has a long tradition: every year during the summer semester break, the TU Braunschweig offers four to six-week intensive courses in German language and culture. In small groups, participants learn German at up to four different levels, as well as German culture and regional studies. In addition, there is an extensive excursion and social programme with visits to historic cities, museums and regional companies. Visits to research facilities at TU Braunschweig and innovative research projects are also on the agenda,
The course is aimed at students and young professionals from all over the world who want to use the semester break to improve their German. It is particularly suitable for students from partner universities who are planning to study at the TU Braunschweig afterwards.
