Sustainable and fire-safe construction—how can digitalisation help? Braunschweiger Brandschutz-Tage 2023 highlight the trending topics in construction trade
The safety of structures has always been an important topic in the building industry. In the future, the energy transition, digitalisation and the focus on sustainability will have an increasing impact on the planning, dimensioning and execution of buildings. This also and especially applies to fire protection. How can newly emerging fire risks be managed? What possibilities do digital solutions offer? These topical questions are the focus of the 37th edition of the Braunschweiger Brandschutz-Tage (Braunschweig Fire Protection Days) on 6 and 7 September.
“The change in fire risk in buildings as a result of a change in building equipment due to the energy transition and digitalisation is an important research topic that we can investigate in completely new dimensions and holistically in our new Center of Fire Safety Research at TU Braunschweig,” says Professor Jochen Zehfuß, scientific conference director and head of the Fire Safety Division at the Institute of Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety (iBMB). The Center of Fire Safety Research (ZeBra), which is located on the East Campus with an experimental hall and large-scale research equipment, will open in autumn. Unique possibilities will be created here to systematically analyse fires at different scales.
Benefits of digitalisation for fire protection
The conference, which will be held at the MEC Millenium Event Center in Braunschweig, will also begin this year with a key note talk: “Die Zukunft des vorbeugenden Brandschutzes – Welche Rolle spielen die Daten in der Welt der nachhaltigen Sicherheit?” (The Future of Preventive Fire Protection – What Role Does Data Play in the World of Sustainable Safety?) – Stefan Truthän, Managing Director of hhpberlin Ingenieure für Brandschutz in Berlin, will speak about this on 6 September.
The conference programme also includes new developments in plant-specific fire protection measures, current regulations, suitable fire protection solutions in timber construction as well as innovative fire protection concepts, for example, for additions to storeys and redensification as well as for meeting places.
Trade Exhibition
Around 30 exhibitors from all over the German-speaking world will be presenting the latest developments in products for structural, system, defence and organisational fire protection at a trade exhibition. The programme will be rounded off by the international symposium “Structural Fire Engineering”, where national and international experts in the field of fire simulation will meet on 5 September. Another highlight will be the awarding of the Brandschutz-Nachwuchspreis (Young Fire Protection Award), the only one of its kind in Germany, during the Brandschutz-Tage.
About the Brandschutz-Tage
The “Braunschweiger Brandschutz-Tage” are among the most important fire protection conferences in the German-speaking world. Around 600 engineers working in the field of fire protection from building supervisory authorities, fire brigades, insurance companies, engineering offices, industry, testing institutes and research institutions have been coming together since 1987 at the invitation of the Institute of Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety at Technische Universität Braunschweig to exchange information and ideas.
