CO_LIVING CAMPUS is funded as part of the University Transformation Laboratory programme Funding of 25,000 euros and one year of process support
Joint press release by the city of Braunschweig and Technische Universität Braunschweig
Technische Universität Braunschweig and the city of Braunschweig have been accepted into the University Transformation Laboratory funding programme with their joint urban development project CO_LIVING CAMPUS. The programme was launched by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft. In addition to financial support of 25,000 euros, the funding includes one year of process support.
“With the urban development project Co_Living Campus, the city of Braunschweig and Technische Universität Braunschweig want to find out together what innovative potential can arise from the interaction between open science and an active urban society. This cooperation project is ambitious and forward-looking. I am therefore delighted that the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft has become an important supporter and facilitator of the process,” says Prof. Dr. Anja Hesse, Head of the city of Braunschweig’s Department of Culture and Science.
“With the Co_Living Campus, we are giving a strong impetus to a transformation process in Braunschweig. The joint project between our university and the city represents a new way of working together, in which living spaces, education and research merge to find innovative answers to the challenges of our time. This is where the strength of our scientific ecosystem comes to the fore, leading to collaboration on very specific projects. The support of the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany not only contributes to the visibility of this project, but also helps us to create a place on the northern campus where the transformation of social forms of life is not only imagined, but also lived,” says Dietmar Smyrek, Vice-President for Human Resources, Finance and University Construction at Technische Universität Braunschweig.
The Co_Living Campus will create a new science district on the northern campus of TU Braunschweig. The aim is to combine education and research, living and working, nature, culture and shopping in a mixed urban quarter. To this end, the northern campus and the neighbouring municipal sports grounds are to be jointly developed into a model science district: Research and education will be accessible and a special form of urban coexistence will be made possible.
