Technische Universität Braunschweig, as the building owner, is opening the doors of the multi-award-winning Student House and the Audimax, which are otherwise not open to the public and can now be viewed as part of architectural tours.

Architects Gustav Düsing and Max Hacke will give two guided tours of the Student House and explain the architectural principle behind the building, which has won the EUmiesAward, the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe 2024 and the German Architecture Prize. The Student House features a steel-wood hybrid construction that is based on a flexible modular system. All components, which are based on a geometric principle, are bolted together rather than glued or welded. This means that the structure can be dismantled and reused like a modular system. The building is accessible to all students and has an open space concept that allows for a variety of student activities and can be flexibly adapted.

Architecture Day

Both the Student House and the Audimax are open to the public on the nationwide Day of Architecture, which traditionally takes place on the last Sunday in June. The Audimax was built in 1959/60 as part of the TU Braunschweig forum ensemble to plans by Friedrich Wilhelm Kraemer. The design concept, which was thought through to the last detail, can be seen again after the refurbishment, and the contrasting colours and materials used once again stand out for their design quality. The aim of the renovation was to preserve as much of the listed building fabric as possible, optimise energy efficiency and improve fire safety.
