Aeronautics research for school pupils Vacancies in the research club "changING" of the Cluster of Excellence SE²A
The research club changING of TU Braunschweig’s Cluster of Excellence SE²A – Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation has started a new round. And there are still vacancies for pupils in grades ten to twelve. changING offers exciting insights into research for sustainable aviation and the chance to research and experiment yourself. One of changING’s goals is to get girls in particular interested in technical topics. Therefore, the team would like to encourage especially female pupils to apply.
The programme includes events and workshops in the areas of acoustics, simulation, programming and design. The young people can also exchange ideas with scientists from TU Braunschweig. Hands-on and independent work is an important part of changING – for example in CAD and 3D printing workshops or experiments in the wind tunnel.
During the school year, the groups meet up every two weeks on an afternoon for two hours. Young students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering accompany the groups as mentors.
In the past three years, more than 70 pupils have already taken part in the research club – in cooperation with more than ten facilities and institutes of TU Braunschweig. changING is recognised by many schools as a club project (AG) and also offers the opportunity to write research papers under supervision.

About “changING”
The research club “changING” of the Cluster of Excellence SE²A – Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation at TU Braunschweig started for the first time in October 2019. Pupils from the tenth grade onwards get the chance to do their own research and experiments here. In addition, they learn about technical degree programmes and professions in the core research area of “Mobility” at TU Braunschweig in a practice-oriented way. The young people are accompanied until they graduate from high school if they want to stay with the project for the entire four years.
Cluster of Excellence: SE²A
The Cluster of Excellence “Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation” (SE²A) has the ambitious goal of making future air transport efficient while at the same time meeting the competing demands of continuous growth and ecological sustainability. The SE²A team includes scientists from TU Braunschweig, the German Aerospace Center, Leibniz University Hannover, Braunschweig University of Art, and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt. The Cluster of Excellence is part of TU Braunschweig’s core research area “Mobility”.
