► How is precise navigation achieved despite weak satellite signals?

The EU research project egeniouss combines satellite navigation with camera images and sensor data. The technology improves positioning in cities and opens up new possibilities for cycle navigation, surveying and drone operations.

► Solar wind is more ordered than previously thought

Turbulence behaves differently in space – researchers from the Institute of Theoretical Physics at TU Braunschweig, working with an international team, have for the first time demonstrated a reversal of magnetic field rotation, which creates distinct structures within the otherwise unstructured plasma. The findings have been published in “The Astrophysical Journal Letters”.

► Wind energy: a passion project

Prof. Clemens Hübler has been head of the Institute of Statics and Dynamics at TU Braunschweig since October. His research focuses on improving the prediction of wind turbine service life and monitoring railway bridges using sensors.

► Scientific curiosity meets practical impact

David Quero Martín is the new Professor of Aeroelasticity at our university and Director of the DLR Institute of Aeroelasticity. His research focuses on how interactions between airflow and flexible structures can be utilised to make aircraft safer, lighter and more efficient.

► “I’m looking forward to lots of interdisciplinary ideas”

Thomas Große is the new professor of production measurement technology. He combines modern sensor technologies with innovative recycling processes to identify materials more precisely and process them by type.

► AI: Better recognition of rare objects

In Prof. Tim Fingscheidt’s Deep Learning Lab, 30 students developed new methods for improved image recognition – for applications such as autonomous driving, robotics and medical image analysis. The winning team impressed with an approach that makes the recognition rate significantly more robust.

► SE²A Science Slam enters its second round

On 24 October, the Haus der Wissenschaft Braunschweig will open its doors for the second SE²A Science Slam under the motto “Clear the ring for the brightest minds”. Hands-on research, interdisciplinary insights and a wealth of passion for aerospace research will take centre stage on this evening.

► TU Braunschweig successful at conference on intelligent transport systems

Six researchers from the Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFF) took part in this year’s IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference. They contributed numerous technical papers and came second in the hackathon.

► Election of the representatives for people with severe disabilities

Nominations must be submitted by 26 October! All adult employees of our university who have been with us for at least six months are eligible to stand as candidates. The election will take place on 20 November – all people with severe disabilities and those of equivalent status are eligible to vote. For further information.

► Kick-off for the participatory process: Working together towards the 2027 major event

In 2027, there will once again be a university-wide major event – but what should it look like in future? An Open Space session for all members of our university will take place on 16 December. More information here.

► Lecture: Abuse of power in academia

The online lecture organised by the Central Staff Development department, “Responsibility in academia: Use of power – abuse of power – prevention’, will highlight examples from academic practice on 5 November.

► Free family film afternoon at the Media Lab

Children accompanied by their parents or other adults can make themselves comfortable with the “Olchis” there on 27 October. The parent-child room is also open right next door. Please register with the Family Office.

► Coffee Lecture on the electronic laboratory notebook eLabFTW

With this social event on 4 November, the University Library is supporting researchers in organising and documenting their research.

► “TU for Future”: Hybrid lecture series on the climate crisis kicks off the new semester

From 28 October 2026 to 27 January 2027, every Wednesday will once again focus on current issues surrounding the climate crisis, energy, sustainable urban development and transformation.

► Digital lecture series “Virtual Education, Real Worlds?” begins

Emerging Tech Fellow Miriam Mulders (University of Duisburg-Essen) will kick off the INTERXR project’s series of events on 20 October with her lecture “Teaching in Immersive Futures”.

► Knowledge nugget: “Immersive XR Applications in Teaching”

Dr René Kockord, Head of the XR Learning Lab, provides an overview of practical applications and the pedagogical challenges. Register for 22 October.

► Webinar series on the “Impact” chapter in EU grant applications

As the chapter on the project’s societal and economic perspectives is often challenging for researchers / scientists, the Lower Saxony network EU-ReasoN is offering a webinar series providing guidance and best practices. Register by 19 October.

► Our darling of the week

Curtain up for AkaBlas: With their programme “Off on an adventure!”, the wind orchestra will take its audience on a journey across the Shire and into distant galaxies on 24 October. The audience can look forward to extraordinary musical experiences and plenty of surprises!
