► “Ylenia” and “Zeynep” swirl
At the moment, one storm is chasing the next, not only toppling trees, but also causing the sunshades on the windows of our buildings to shake. In order to keep the storm damage to a minimum and to continue to have good protection when the sun shines again, we ask you to raise the sunshades and not to use them for the time being. As a precautionary measure, the manual controls in the Forum building have been temporarily taken out of operation.

to Professor Corinna Bath! The Graz University of Technology is awarding her an honorary doctorate. Professor Bath, who holds the Maria Goeppert-Mayer Professorship for “Gender, Technology and Mobility”, receives the award in recognition of “her outstanding scientific achievements in the field of gender research and its integration into the technical sciences”.

go to Dr. Inka Mai! For her research on 3D printing of concrete, the senior engineer at the Division Building Materials of the Institute of Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety received the “Klaus Dyckerhoff Award for Young Scientists”.
► Professor Antje Schwalb again in the BGR Board of Trustees
The head of the Institute for Geosystems and Bioindication was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources for a second term. In addition, the members elected her as chairperson.
► Professor Heike Faßbender reappointed to the German Accreditation Council
The German Rectors’ Conference and the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs have reappointed Professor Heike Faßbender, Head of the Institute of Numerical Mathematics, to the Accreditation Council, which makes decisions on programme and system accreditations to ensure the quality of study programmes.
► Departure
The Head of University Controlling, Rita Westphal, is moving to Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, where she will take over the Finance and Reporting Division. After 3.5 years she is leaving the TU Braunschweig on 31 March. She says goodbye in an open letter and thanks us for the trusting and constructive cooperation.
► Living with Yak Herders in Tibet
PhD student Siran Liang from the Institute for Geosystems and Bioindication spent four months in a Tibetan village for her research. As part of the TransTiP Research Training Group, she is investigating, among other things, how yak herders experience climate change. She will be reporting on the “Deep Hanging Out” in a logbook in the coming weeks.
► Hydrogen and robots in agriculture
“Spot farming” focuses on the individual plant, which is supplied as optimally as possible with the help of autonomous field robots. This concept has now been awarded the DLG Agrifuture Concept. A second DLG award went to the “H2Agrar” project, in which prototypes of a hydrogen-powered tractor are being developed.
► Symposium on carbon-neutral urban development
The SpACE Lab at ISU – Institute for Sustainable Urbanism jointly with the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University invites to the “Sino-German Symposium Low Carbon Communities Shanghai 2022”. Challenges and opportunities of carbon-neutral urban development in Shanghai and the broader context of future cities in China and Germany will be discussed.
► The anniversary graduating class bids farewell
The 10th round of the Lower Saxony Technical College comes to an end with a digital ceremony on 25 February. The technicians will report on their internships and their days at university. Those interested can register here.

The Junior Research Group “Overall System Evaluation”, JRG-A1, in the Cluster of Excellence SE²A analyzes and evaluates alternative transition pathways in order to achieve long-term development goals for the air transport system. ► New Research Spaces for the Humanities and Cultural Studies
The Volkswagen Foundation’s funding initiative addresses teams of two or three researchers who aim to explore new and original research spaces. The next call deadline is expected for November 2022.
► Research on Science: Submit abstracts for symposium now
For the inaugural event of the Volkswagen Foundation’s new “Research on Science” funding program, scientists are invited to apply for an impulse contribution by March 31, 2022.
► Darling of the week
Our darlings are the makers of the interdisciplinary project “SURESOFT”, who successfully develop approaches for sustainable research software and apply them themselves. Dr. Jan Linxweiler from the Institute for Computational Modelling in Civil Engineering and his colleagues from the Gauss IT Centre, the University Library and the Institutes for Operating Systems and Computer Networks, for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, for Communications Engineering and for Acoustics have now been awarded third place in the campusSOURCE Awards 2022. Congratulations!
