Christmas in the wave flume
Father Christmas visited the large wave flume GWK+ at the Coastal Research Centre in Hanover and brought gifts for the scientists at the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering. Colourful pieces of wood that were tossed about by the waves in the flume.
The wood was used as flotsam for experiments with tsunami waves. In the ‘AngryWaters’ project – funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant – the LWI team investigated how extreme hydrodynamic events and debris impact lead to the collapse of structures.
