TU Braunschweig among the top 10 universities in Germany in terms of third-party funding Highest third-party funding ratio in Lower Saxony

  •  Average of €588,800 in third-party funding per professorship in 2023
  • Total of €129,526,000 in third-party funding in 2023
  • Increase of 1.24% compared to 2022

According to a recent evaluation by the Federal Statistical Office, the Technical University of Braunschweig is far ahead in a Germany-wide comparison of third-party funding acquired in 2023. With an average of €588,800 per professor, TU Braunschweig ranks 9th among German universities – in Lower Saxony, it ranks 1st ahead of Hanover.

“Our ranking among the top ten universities in Germany in terms of third-party funding per professor in 2023 recognises the outstanding commitment and excellent research work of our professors. It attests to the success of our determined strategy to further expand interdisciplinary cooperation and thus position TU Braunschweig as a driver of innovation and social progress. In recent years, TU Braunschweig has systematically expanded its research services and provides comprehensive support to scientists in the application process: it provides information on funding opportunities, offers individual guidance through the application process, advises on contractual issues and arranges suitable cooperation partners and relevant contacts.

Third-party funding is money that is applied for in addition to the regular university budget for research, young scientists and teaching. The most important sources of third-party funding for TU Braunschweig are the federal government, the German Research Foundation (DFG), industry and business, and the European Union. Most third-party funding at TU Braunschweig, as well as nationwide, was acquired by the engineering and natural sciences.
