NFL Research Day 2022 The latest news from sustainable aviation research

This year, the Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL) will once again be holding its NFL Research Day on Wednesday, 9 November 2022, from 9 am to 12 pm. The theme of the programme is “Pollutants in aviation”. In addition to lectures, the NFL Awards will be presented. Participation in the hybrid event is free of charge.

In addition to presenting the NFL awards for the best research paper and the best student papers, three exciting lectures are on the agenda:

  • Volker Grewe of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) will begin with a lecture on the climate impact of today’s air traffic and the various aircraft emissions. In addition, the effect that alternative forms of propulsion could have on the climate impact of aircraft will also be discussed.
  • Following this, Prof. Friedrich Dinkelacker from the Institute for Technical Combustion at the Leibniz University of Hannover (LUH) will report on the progress made in avoiding pollutants in current and future aircraft engines.
  • Finally, Frank Wetzel from the German Environment Agency (UBA) will go into more detail about the current and upcoming guidelines of the German government regarding pollutant emissions in aviation and which measures, such as compensation payments or taxes, are to provide an additional incentive for pollutant reduction in the future.

Hybrid Event

This year, the Research Day will take place as a hybrid event. This means that interested persons can participate in the Research Day both in person and digitally via Webex video conference. The in-person event will take place at the Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFF) in Hermann-Blenk-Straße 42, 38108 Braunschweig. For on-site participation, we would like to ask you to register for the in-person event in advance by e-mail (nfl@tu-braunschweig.de).

For digital participation, you can dial into the conference. The video conference will be activated approx. 15 minutes before the start of the event.

About the NFL

The Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL) at TU Braunschweig comprises scientists working in aerospace research in Lower Saxony. What drives them is sustainability in long-distance travel. The challenges here are energy supply, economic efficiency and safety. To this end, they jointly develop key technologies and communicate facts on the discourse in aerospace research.
