Heavy Metal A symphony concert on the instrument of the year 2024 - the tuba

This semester the orchestra of Technische Universität Braunschweig is dedicating itself to the instrument of the year, the tuba. In addition to works in which the tuba plays a leading role, the programme of the three concerts includes a solo concert by tuba player Daniel Barth.

The brass instrument stands out due to its dimensions and is an integral part of an orchestra. However, its role in the sound structure is often rather diffuse. It is responsible for the depth of the sound, but is seldom entrusted with melodic tasks. The TU Braunschweig Orchestra, under the baton of Markus Lüdke, presents the tuba in all its diversity to dispel preconceptions about the instrument.

Embedded in the symphony concert is the solo concert of tuba player Daniel Barth with the work “Tuba Concerto op. 139” by the Hungarian composer Jorge Salgueiro.

The concerts are free of charge. Tickets will be available one hour before the concert in the Audimax.

Concert dates:

  • Sunday, 4 February 2024, 5pm
  • Monday 5 February 2024, 8pm
  • Tuesday, 6 February 2024, 8 pm
