► Implementation of vaccinations at the TU Braunschweig is under examination

Area-wide vaccination is a central component in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to give you, as employees of the TU Braunschweig, another opportunity to get a vaccination appointment, the crisis management is examining at full speed to what extent vaccinations can be carried out at the TU Braunschweig by its own University Medical Service.

In our region, model projects are already underway at companies that have joined the vaccination campaign with their medical officers. At universities without a medical center, no vaccination centers have yet been established in Lower Saxony. Whether we can establish such a vaccination center here at our university is not only at the discretion of the TU Braunschweig. There are several bureaucratic and organizational hurdles to overcome on the way. The presidium is currently preparing an application for approval from the MWK for company medical vaccination. Since its own resources for the setup are limited, the crisis management is at the same time holding promising talks with cooperation partners in the region who are to assist in carrying out the vaccinations. However, for an employee vaccination campaign to ultimately get underway, sufficient vaccine must also be available.

If all hurdles can be overcome, a vaccination campaign could start at the end of June at the earliest. The Presidium and the crisis management therefore ask you to continue to exhaust all possibilities of obtaining a vaccination appointment at vaccination centers, with family doctors, specialists, etc. Our common goal is to protect your health, because it is the most important asset of our Carolo-Wilhelmina. We will keep you informed about the further status of our own possible vaccination campaign.

► Congratulations

… to Dr. Sanaz Hadadpour! She receives the De Paepe-Willems-Award for her research on coastal vegetation as a natural shore protection.This is the second time that the international award of the PIANC (World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure) goes to the Leichtweiß-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources and the first time since 2009 to a woman.

► First digital university information days: exploring the university from afar

After the Hochschulinformationstag (HIT) had to be cancelled last year due to Corona, this year it will be held online for the first time – for a whole week from June 7 to 11. We talked about it with Dr. Yvonne A. Henze, head of the Academic Advice Service.

► Intelligent implants research funded by DFG in a new SFB/TRR

The TU Braunschweig is involved in two projects in the new Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio “Safety-integrated and infection-reactive implants (SIIRI)”. Research is being conducted on systems that continuously check the functionality of the implant and can react to wear and infections.

Minister for Science Björn Thümler talks to Professor Dieter Jahn about the post-covid syndrome in his science podcast “Wissen schafft Zukunft”. The head of the Institute of Microbiology was one of the first to suffer from Covid-19 last year.

Alexander Herwig from the Student Office concludes our series on the Study Service Center. His tip for students: “Set yourself small, realistic goals for each day. With a firm structure, it’s much easier to cope with the pandemic situation.”

► Stud.IP update on May 29

Improved search, cloud storage and office hours: After half a year of preparation, Stud.IP version 4.6 arrives with some new features for teaching, learning and examination. During the update, the platform will be unavailable on Saturday.

► Botanical Garden opened

Have you also missed the splendorous flowers and the soft splashing of the waterfall? Now the botanical garden is open again Tuesdays through Sundays (plus holidays) from 10 am to 4 pm.

► New offers of Team Teaching and Media Education

Offers for (digital) testing with a focus on open book exams will start as early as June. More about the formats as well as the certificate “Basic University Teaching” is on the website.

► Professor Garnweitner is the new DFG Liaison Officer

As a proven scientist with DFG experience, Professor Georg Garnweitner, Institute of Particle Technology, has been appointed DFG Liaison Officer by the Presidency. He succeeds Professor Rolf Ernst from the Institute of Computer and Network Engineering.

Our darling of the week is this year’s TU Night with the theme “Lost Places”. Video formats and interactive experience spaces on several nights: Be excited and explore lost places at TU Braunschweig from June 7 to July 3.
