►TU expertise on the Council for Information Infrastructures

For the new term of office, our Vice President for Digitalisation and Sustainability, Prof. Manfred Krafczyk, has been appointed as a new member. Congratulations!
►The President’s Consultation Hour
Anyone wishing to raise a concern or share ideas, either individually or as a small group, can discuss these confidentially with President Angela Ittel during the consultation hour on 7 August at 11.00 am. Please register with Karen Lehmann.
► Democracy requires a stance
A workshop organised by the #Buntstadt initiative aims to support teaching staff in dealing with everyday racism and discrimination. Dr Britta Wittner and Dr Konrad Schäfer explain why this initiative is particularly important right now and what participants can expect in an interview. Registration for the event on 21 August is now open.
► The car becomes a health monitor
Cars that can detect the health of the person behind the wheel – these are the research vehicles developed by the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics in collaboration with the Institute of Automotive Engineering. In September, they will be demonstrating how accident prevention can work at the international motor show “Automechanika Frankfurt”.
► The TU in the FAZ: How much of Homer is there in the film ‘The Odyssey’?
Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of the ‘Odyssey’ has been filling cinemas for several weeks now. But how much does the film really have in common with Homer’s epic? This was the subject of an intensive seminar organised by the Institute of Philosophy. The results were published by lecturers Prof. Nicole Karafyllis, Prof. Johannes Wienand and PD Dr Alfred Dunshim on 29 July in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
► Integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into teaching
A three-part online continuing professional development course organised by the Lower Saxony Universities’ Sustainability Network, starting in January 2027, demonstrates how this can be done. With a practical and concrete approach, the course supports teaching staff in developing their own courses step by step to align them with ESD principles.
► Open Innovation Challenge on Green & Circular Metals
Solve real-world challenges in international teams and present the results at the Green Circular Metals Expert Forum in Amsterdam in September: this is what Master’s students, graduates and doctoral students can do as part of the EIT Raw Materials Challenge. The winners will receive prize money of 1,000 euros. The application deadline is 15 August.
► VDI Scholarship for Sustainable Technologies: Application deadline extended
The scholarship supports Bachelor’s and Master’s students writing their thesis on sustainable technologies. In addition to financial support of 300 euros per month, the scholarship also offers mentoring and valuable industry contacts. Please feel free to pass this on to students. Applications are open until 18 August.
► Science and Art Lab returns to the Wissenschaftsschaufenster
From 14 August to 15 September, visitors can once again look forward to a varied programme combining art and science. It kicks off on 14 August with the QuantumDisco, where children will learn how particles dance alongside Dr Anne Geese (physics education, TU Braunschweig) and Dr Dominika Cohn (choreographer and dance scholar).
► Our darling of the week
What a sight! The Victoria Nights on 5 and 6 August once again showcase the wonders of nature. Anyone who doesn’t want to miss the annual flowering of the giant tropical water lily, Victoria cruziana, should definitely pop along to the Botanical Garden at the TU Braunschweig. It’s open until 10 pm, and entry is free!
