► University Brand adaptation: Interview with the President

► High-resolution radars for the vehicle cabin
Especially with autonomous vehicles in mind, it is becoming increasingly important to equip the car’s cabin with reliable sensors. In the “SICHER” project, the Institute for CMOS Design led by Professor Vadim Issakov is laying the foundations for a new generation of radar sensors.

How do you get machines to correctly recognise creatures or objects in images that are unknown to them? This was the question 30 students addressed in the Deep Learning Lab 2023, developing creative solutions for so-called anomaly segmentation.

Two ideas were honoured in the Entrepreneurship Hub’s “Technology Business Model Creation” seminar: contactless registration in hospitals and the sustainable production of solar cells.
► Picture of the month: Glowing moulds
To gain a better understanding of fungal cells, scientists at the Institute of Genetics are researching with genetically modified strains of Neurospora crassa (Roter Brotschimmelpilz). Our picture of the month shows what such mutations look like under the microscope.

With this award, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) honours his dialogue with society, including his commitment to responsible science and better international cooperation. Congratulations!

… to Physens! The start-up of the Institute of Geophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics was awarded in the category “Outstanding nominated idea” in the INNOspace Masters, an international competition in the space sector of the DLR.
► First Erasmus Mundus degree programme at TU Braunschweig
“Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters” are international courses of excellence offered jointly by at least three international universities. With “Communication Systems and Data Science”, TU Braunschweig is participating in such a cooperation for the first time.

► Multidisciplinary German-Israeli research group founded
The German-Israeli research workshop on “Bodily Autonomy and Identities” at the Faculty of Humanities and Education has provided the impetus for the founding of a joint research group.
► Call for applications: Jürgen Wehland Prize for young infection researchers
Young scientists with a research focus relevant to infection are eligible to apply. Submission of documents by 25 August.
► Exist-Women: New funding line
The new funding guideline of the Exist-Women programme of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection is online. Applications for events, advice and support services as well as a financial grant for prospective female entrepreneurs can be submitted until 30 September.
► Darling of the week
The FISU World University Games are currently taking place in Chengdu, China, the second largest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics. Three TU students are also taking part: pharmacy student Aaron Erfanian and mechanical engineering student Felix Heinrich are competing in the rowing events, while teaching student Caroline Hajok is competing against other students in table tennis. We are keeping our fingers crossed for our athletes!
