Honorary Professorship for Dr Alexander Tourneau Outstanding expertise in technology-oriented management
Dr Alexander Tourneau has been appointed Honorary Professor of the Carl Friedrich Gauß Faculty of TU Braunschweig on 20 January 2025. The faculty honours his outstanding expertise in the field of technological risk management, which he has shared with the faculty through his teaching over many years. As a member of the Board of Directors of Öffentliche Versicherung Braunschweig and the author of numerous insurance-related publications, he brings not only in-depth insurance expertise to his teaching, but also important practical insights.
Dr Alexander Tourneau is a perfect addition to the Technology-Oriented Management programme, as managing the various technology risks is relevant to every company. From cyber risks to renewable energy, autonomous driving and complex supply chains, a broad spectrum is covered that reflects the challenges and opportunities of today’s technologies.

Dr Tourneau has been involved in university teaching since 2015. From 2015 to 2021, he was a lecturer in insurance management at University of Giessen. Due to his expertise, particularly in the area of technology-oriented insurance, he was recruited as a lecturer at TU Braunschweig. Since 2021, he has been successfully offering a course on “Management and Insurance of Technological Risks”, which is an essential addition to the range of courses in the area of “Management of Industrial Enterprises”.
However, Dr Tourneau is not only involved in teaching at TU Braunschweig. He is also active in the Braunschweigischer Hochschulbund e.V., of which he was recently elected to the board.
Personal details
Dr Alexander Tourneau studied Industrial Engineering at TU Berlin from 1984 to 1989, graduating in 1989 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He then worked as a research assistant at TU Berlin, where he obtained his PhD in 1995 with a thesis on the organisation of investment planning in industrial companies.
From 1995 to 2002, Dr Tourneau was a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group and from 2003 to 2006, he was Head of Corporate Development/Controlling at Deutscher Ring Versicherungen, Hamburg. From 2007 to 2010, he held senior positions at UBS Deutschland AG, Frankfurt am Main, at M.M.Warburg & CO, Hamburg, and Baloise Holding, Basel. From 2010 to 2017, he was a member of the Executive Board of Basler Sachversicherungs AG, Bad Homburg, and of Basler Lebensversicherungs AG, Hamburg. After being a partner at Stratfields Unternehmensberatung, Hamburg, from 2018 to 2019, he has been a member of the management board of Öffentliche Sachversicherung Braunschweig and Öffentliche Lebensversicherung Braunschweig since 2019.
