Help for refugees in Braunschweig An urgent request for support

The request reached us on Tuesday evening. The City of Braunschweig announced that it could no longer cope with the large number of refugees from Ukraine arriving and seeking protection on its own and asked for personnel support at the highest level. Technische Universität Braunschweig has pledged to support to the best of its ability in light of the looming, unimagined scale of the humanitarian crisis.

We ask all volunteers who, in consultation with their leader, can imagine helping with the reception, distribution and care of refugees to contact Ms Anne Fritz in the Human Resources Department. The City of Brunswick has affirmed: ‘The tasks are manifold and are just developing. Every helping hand is needed!

It has been agreed with the city: Employees who want to help will be seconded to the City of Braunschweig for the amount of time they wish. They will continue to receive their remuneration in their individual remuneration group via the NLBV. The City of Braunschweig will reimburse TU Braunschweig for any personnel costs incurred in the course of any secondments. The place of employment remains Braunschweig. The periods of service are agreed individually with the volunteers. There is no minimum amount of time for a secondment. Volunteer work, for example at weekends, is also possible and welcome. Volunteers who speak Ukrainian or Russian are especially welcome.

We are particularly pleased: due to the broad response and the great willingness to help and solidarity at TU Braunschweig, the first volunteers could already be reported to the city of Braunschweig the day after the call from the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture (MWK).

Already today, Friday, the first employees of TU Braunschweig will start their service at the City of Braunschweig. “I am very grateful and proud of the willingness of the employees to help so quickly!” says President Prof. Angela Ittel. To all those who are already helping and to all those who still want to help, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
