A week of diversity "Diversity Days": Getting to know different facets
In 2024, ‘Diversity Day’ will become ‘Diversity Days’ – a whole week of workshops, readings, lectures and more on the topic of diversity. The programme kicks off on 28 May, the national day of action on the subject, with a keynote speech entitled ‘Racism-critical university – between necessity and strategic added value’ by multi-award winning racism researcher Prof. Lorenz Narku Laing. The event will take place from 6 pm in the Architecture Pavillon of TU Braunschweig. The programme combines offers from external partners and TU members and takes place on campus and in the city of Braunschweig.
Colourful programme
Until 4 June, guests can take part in more than thirty other free events. These are spread across Braunschweig and offer both morning and afternoon opportunities to explore the various facets of diversity. On 30 May, those interested can even use their lunch break to listen to a reading by Emilia Roig. Starting at 1 pm, the author will read from her book ‘Why we Matter’ in Mensa 1 (Katharinenstraße 1), which is about privilege, questioning and historically explaining the status quo and spinning utopias.
On the other hand, the ‘Diversity Cup’, an inclusive beach volleyball tournament organised by University Sports in cooperation with Lebenshilfe Braunschweig, will take place on the same day at 5 pm. People with and without disabilities will play together in alternating teams and will have the opportunity to socialise and get to know each other over drinks on the sidelines.
Feminism and social sustainability are the focus of the film screening ‘Female Pleasures’ on 3 June in the Universum cinema, presented by the Green Office of TU Braunschweig in cooperation with KNOW MORE and sichtbar e.V. The film follows five women from five world religions and shows their successful, high-risk fight for self-determined female sexuality and for equal, respectful coexistence of the sexes. This will be followed by a contextualisation.
The Diversity Days 2024 are a cooperation between the Strategic University Development, the Press and Communication Office and the Equal Opportunities Office and are supported by the Braunschweigischer Hochschulbund (BHB).
