Workshop: Communicating Gender in STEM
The four-hour workshop “Communicating Gender in STEM” on 12 December 2024 serves as an introduction to the central perspectives and issues of intersectional gender research in the field of STEM science and science communication. All interested parties are cordially invited; registration is requested (by email to gedimint@tu-braunschweig.de).
Speaker Dr. Jana Gerlach is a researcher at the Margherita von Brentano Centre for Gender Studies, where she is responsible for the Toolbox Gender & Diversity in Teaching. Since 2010, she has been working part-time as a freelance trainer in the fields of university didactics, gender & diversity, and anti-discrimination.
In order to improve the communication of gender dimensions in STEM disciplines, Jana Gerlach first of all imparts knowledge in this area in the workshop. Specific aspects of diversity-sensitive didactics and science communication will also be addressed. In a second step, this knowledge will be used to train argumentation and speaking skills – be it with regard to the use of gender-equitable language, diversity-sensitive teaching methods (e.g. with regard to accessibility) or the question of when and why we explicitly address gender and other categories of difference or not.
