On 1 January 2025, Professor Tim Fingscheidt of the Institute for Communications Technology will be named an IEEE Fellow. Each year, the IEEE Fellow Committee selects less than 0.1 percent of the voting members of the world’s largest professional association for engineers and scientists in the field of electrical engineering and information technology as new Fellows, this time for the “Fellow Class of 2025”, in a rigorous selection process.

Professor Fingscheidt received this special honour “for contributions to speech enhancement systems and their evaluation”. In particular, he was honoured for his fundamental research contributions to hands-free systems in many millions of smartphones, as well as his contributions to international standards and metrics for measuring speech quality.

The Institute for Communications Technology is particularly pleased that all three of its current professors, Professor Eduard Jorswieck, Professor Thomas Kürner and Professor Tim Fingscheidt, are IEEE Fellows, as is the former director of the Institute, Professor Ulrich Reimers.
