Lithuanian Delegation: Vilnius Tech visited TU Braunschweig

Since 2010, TU Braunschweig has been cooperating with the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Vilnius Tech) in Lithuania in the areas of study and teaching. In 2013, a joint double degree programme for students in mechanical engineering was established, which has since seen 32 students graduate successfully. At the beginning of the year, TU Braunschweig welcomed a delegation from Vilnius Tech to the campus.

Prof. Andrius Dzedzickis from Vilnius Tech. Picture credits: Simone Fürst/TU Braunschweig

Professor Vytautas Bučinskas, Head of the Department of Mechatronics, Robotics and Digital Manufacturing, and Associate Professor Andrius Dzedzickis visited the Institute of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology, the Battery Lab Factory, the Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology (LENA), and the International House during their two-day stay. They also discussed the double degree programme with TU representatives and met six students from Vilnius Tech who are currently studying in Braunschweig.

Professor Andreas Dietzel, Head of the Institute of Microtechnology at TU Braunschweig, emphasises the importance of the exchange with the partner university: “Vilnius Tech is a very exciting partner for us, which is developing very dynamically and pursuing interesting approaches in its internationalisation strategy. One example of this is the pronounced European focus that Vilnius Tech is following. The intensive exchange about different approaches to internationalisation was very rewarding.” With regard to further collaboration, he adds: “The curriculum of our Dual Degree Programme must continue to be improved and aligned. We wish to add more English-taught courses to offer students more options. We also discussed the possibility of involving additional European partners in the International Master’s Track in Mechatronics in the future.”

Students in the double degree programme earn both a German and a Lithuanian Master of Science degree. They spend the first year of their Master’s studies at Vilnius Tech, where they complete 60 credit points. In the second year, they write their Master’s thesis at TU Braunschweig.

In addition to the double degree programme, both universities also have an Erasmus+ cooperation in the fields of architecture, electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace, and mechanical engineering.

About Vilnius Tech

Vilnius Tech was founded in 1956 and has established itself as one of the leading educational institutions in Lithuania. The university’s international orientation is evident not only from the high number of foreign students—nearly 20 percent of the 8,100 students are international—but also through its strong networking with other universities worldwide. Furthermore, Vilnius Tech offers nearly 53 percent of its programmes in English.
