In-Person Kinder-Uni Braunschweig returns! "Zero Waste" lecture with accompanying podcast series

“How can plastic bottles be reused?” This question will be explored by Technische Universität Braunschweig as part of the Kinder-Uni in October. Professor Stephan Scholl from the Institute for Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering will give a lecture on this topic in the Audimax on 7 October at 10.30 am. Science-loving children between the ages of eight and twelve can register from 15 September. This year there will be a Kinder-Uni lecture. For the first time, this will be supplemented by the podcast series “Clever nachgefragt!”

Plastic waste is one of the biggest environmental problems of our time: it dirties roadsides, gets into the oceans as microplastics and is mostly incinerated today. As a huge and readily available source of raw materials, it could replace crude oil and natural gas in many applications.

Answering exciting questions about recycling

In the Kinder-Uni lecture, Professor Scholl will provide answers to the following questions:

  • What options are already available today for recycling plastics?
  • Are all plastics equally recyclable?
  • What would have to be done to be able to recycle more plastics?
  • What can be made again from recycled plastics?

Parents and accompanying persons can follow the lecture in a neighbouring lecture hall.

Those interested can register online for the lecture in the Audimax from 15 to 22 September. The accompanying podcast series will be published on the Kinder-Uni website in early October 2023.

The lecture is free of charge and will take place on 7 October at 10.30 am in the Audimax (Universitätsplatz 3, 38106 Braunschweig). Kinder-Uni students can have lunch at a reduced rate in Mensa 1 in Katharinenstraße after the lecture.

Why “Zero Waste” as the main topic?

For the first time, Technische Universität Braunschweig is cooperating with the Department of Schools of the City of Braunschweig, the Pestalozzi School and Haus der Wissenschaft GmbH as part of the Kinder-Uni. The Kinder-Uni’s topic “Zero Waste” complements the sustainability prize for Braunschweig schools offered by the city of Braunschweig. The podcast series, which is produced in cooperation with the Haus der Wissenschaft, is supported by the Ecki-Wohlgehagen-Stiftung and the Bürgerstiftung Braunschweig.
