Generating Knowledge From Data The English-language master's program in Data Science will start in the winter semester of 2021/22.
Digitalization is generating gigantic amounts of data. The master’s program in Data Science at the Technische Universität Braunschweig teaches how this data can be processed to gain knowledge for solving social challenges. The four-semester program, which is taught in English, will start in the winter semester of 2021/22. The application period starts on June 01 and ends on July 15, 2021.
The Data Science program at TU Braunschweig is characterized by a triad in its orientation: a fundamentally oriented education in mathematics, in relevant areas of computer science, and in a variety of application areas in which the acquired techniques are used. The application area with its large and flexible freedom of choice is an important component of the program. Students can choose from the entire portfolio of the TU Braunschweig, such as engineering, biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine or image and signal processing, and thus set their own profile and focus.
Mentoring program assists students throughout their studies
Students are assisted by mentors from the university’s mathematics and computer science faculty, who accompany them throughout their studies. The excellent ratio between mentoring lecturers and students also contributes to individualized studies, as do the short distances between the computer science and mathematics institutes on the central campus.
The Data Science program teaches methods and concepts of data acquisition, data integration and data management in order to analyze and use them effectively. Students also learn to competently select, combine, adapt to specific needs and further develop analysis methods and algorithms for various problems. They also acquire the ability to correctly assess the significance of data instances and the analysis methods used, as well as to lead data projects and effectively manage decision-making processes in data management and analysis. In addition to theory, the Data Science program also offers practical experience: In seminars, internships, and while working on research projects, students apply research-oriented learning and acquire additional key skills.
The program, which is conducted exclusively in English, is aimed at graduates of mathematics, computer science, and financial and business mathematics as well as related programs. The students are supported with so-called ramp-up courses in mathematics and computer science, so that they have a comparable level despite different previous degrees and thus the entire range of the Data Science program is open to them.
Information session
An information session for those interested will be held on 03/06/2021 from 3-4pm. Registration is not required for the online event.
Background
The four-semester master’s program in Data Science is admission-restricted and can be begun in the winter and summer semesters. Applications for the winter semester are open from June 01 to July 15 and for the summer semester from December 01 to January 15. Special deadlines apply to non-EU applicants. Knowledge of at least one of the common programming languages and appropriate English skills are required.
