What’s going on on Campus? Sustainability, internationality, diversity and everything to do with health
In the summer semester there will be lots of cool events on the Campus of Technische Universität Braunschweig. From the International Days and Diversity Days to the TUmorrow Days and Health Week, the aim is to actively participate, inform and celebrate. On several days a theme is the focus of attention. Whether for students, employees or the interested public – there is something for everyone.
“Discover the world with TU Braunschweig”
The first International Days will take place from 24 to 26 April. Under the motto “Discover the world with TU Braunschweig”, all TU members are invited to get to know the many facets of internationality at TU Braunschweig, to further their education and to engage in dialogue with each other.
For three days, the university will focus on the theme of internationality during the International Days. The varied programme includes workshops, information events, an outgoing fair, an alumni*ae talk, a film evening and much more.
The first day of the programme will focus on internationality in the context of sustainability and diversity. The second day of the programme will focus on the topic of “Going Abroad”. The highlight of the final day is the Language Centre’s anniversary celebration.
A week of diversity at the Diversity Days
This year, the “Diversity Day” will become the “Diversity Days”. For a whole week, from 28 May to 4 June, there will be workshops, readings, lectures and much more on the subject of diversity. The programme, which brings together offers from external partners and TU members, begins on 28 May with the keynote speech “University critical of racism – between necessity and strategic added value” by award-winning racism researcher Professor Lorenz Narku Laing.
Until 4 June, guests can take part in over thirty other free events organised by external partners and TU members. The venues are spread across Braunschweig and offer a variety of opportunities to engage with the different facets of diversity, both in the morning and in the afternoon. On 30 May, for example, those interested can listen to a reading by Emilia Roig during their lunch break. The author and political scientist will be reading from her book “Why we matter”, which is about privilege, questioning and historically explaining the status quo and spinning utopias, in Mensa 1 from 13:00.
The “Diversity Cup” on 4 June is a sporting event. At the inclusive beach volleyball tournament organised by the Sports Centre in cooperation with Lebenshilfe Braunschweig, people with and without disabilities play in alternating teams and can get to know each other and exchange ideas on the sidelines.
Feminism and social sustainability will be the focus of the film screening “Female Pleasures” at the Universum Filmtheater on 3 June. The film follows five women from five world religions and shows their successful, high-risk fight for self-determined female sexuality and for equal, respectful coexistence between the sexes.
The diverse programme offers people with and without previous knowledge and experience the opportunity to engage with different facets of diversity in creative, athletic, interactive and informative formats.
Health week: wellbeing@work&study
After the Diversity Days, the Health Week continues. Under the motto wellbeing@work&study, numerous indoor and outdoor events on the topics of happiness, learning, well-being, resilience, sleep and self-care as well as student health will take place from 3 June to 7 June. Relaxation and exercise are available in the Botanical Garden or in a cosy Brainlight massage chair. Health checks will also be available. Staff and students can spend a week learning about wellbeing and trying things out for themselves.
Working conditions and health survey
How satisfied are you with your work? How do you feel? Where do you see a need for action? To coincide with Health Week, all employees will be asked for their views on working conditions and health. For four weeks, from 3 June to 1 July 2024, all employees will be able to give their opinion online on these questions and other topics such as working conditions, leadership culture, collaboration, conflict management, time demands, digitalisation, flexible working, satisfaction and mental health, and initiate change. The aim is to work together to exceed the response rate of the last survey and derive further effective action from the survey.
TUmorrow Days: “Sustainability in Action“
This year’s third TUmorrow Days at TU Braunschweig will be held under the motto “Sustainability in Action”. From 11 to 13 June, the Sustainability Action Days aim to bring the topics of environmental protection, climate change, social justice and sustainable development closer to a broad audience of university members and interested citizens.
The three-day programme, which will be published in May, includes the presentation of the TUmorrow Awards – the sustainability prize for student initiatives, theses and courses -, a science slam with entertaining short presentations on sustainability research, a market of opportunities where initiatives and organisations present their commitment to sustainability, and a cinema evening in the Universum Filmtheater. TUmorrow Beats, a sustainable party format where you can celebrate on Campus, also shows that sustainability is a way of life at TU Braunschweig.
