► Energy crisis: face-to-face teaching has priority

Against the background of the acute energy crisis, TU Braunschweig is preparing for the coming winter months. The aim is to reduce energy consumption and thus conserve gas reserves and mitigate cost increases. There is agreement in the University that classroom teaching is a high priority. Nevertheless, significant savings are imperative. This can lead to a noticeable loss in comfort.

► Break-in at offices

Last weekend, several laptops and a work mobile phone were stolen from an office building in Spielmannstraße and the offices were ransacked. In addition, considerable damage to property was caused in the building. For this reason, we urgently request that you do not leave your rooms unlocked. Do not keep valuables or cash in the offices and store data protection-relevant documents appropriately.

► Fit for AI in teaching

Artificial intelligence as one of the central key technologies is to be increasingly established in teaching and further education at universities. TU Braunschweig is working in the joint project “KI4ALL”, among other things, on teaching offers to build up AI literacy.

► Congratulations

… to Prof. Bohumil Kasal and Juan Li from the Institute of Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety. They were awarded the “George G. Marra Award of Excellence in writing and research” of the Society of Wood Science & Technology in Gold Coast, Australia.

► Research fellow at SpACE Lab

The team of the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism is happy to welcome a new member: the architect Yevheniia Berchul will soon be doing research in the SpACE Lab at ISU as part of the special programme for young Ukrainian scientists offered by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt.

► KNOW MORE- Workshops

As part of the TU campaign against sexualised violence, the events “When is it over? – Workshop against sexualised violence” and “A critical look at gender-based violence” will take place on 15 and 21 September.

► Support for researchers at risk

Applications for the next call of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative can be submitted until 21 October. The programme enables academics who are exposed to considerable danger in their countries of origin to continue their work at German universities and research institutions.

► Lectures wanted

… for the Braunschweig Young Lecture Series of Faculty 6. Under the title “Electricity and Flow”, Master’s students, pre-docs and post-docs can still submit lecture proposals until 15 September.

► Working under the WissenschaftsZeitVertragsGesetz (Science Time Contract Act)

A discussion on this topic will take place on 7 September at BRICS with Prof. Timo de Wolf, Institute for Analysis and Algebra. Further information is available from the Kooperationsstelle Hochschulen – Gewerkschaften (Cooperation Centre Universities – Trade Unions).

► Events on equal opportunities in DFG funding programs

From October 25, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) will offer online events on various aspects of equal opportunities in funding programs.

►Funding program for visionary projects in basic research

The Volkswagen Foundation supports pioneering projects in all disciplines with up to 500,000 euros for a maximum period of 3 years. Draft proposals can be submitted at any time.

► Darling of the week

From 4 to 24 September, it’s time to pedal hard to collect kilometres and do something good for the climate. As always, our darling of the week, the TU Braunschweig team, will be taking part in the city cycling event and will be the defending champions with the most kilometres collected. For those who still need an incentive to register, TU captain Sándor Fekete will put you in the mood with a video about how beautiful cycling can be. Register now, because every kilometre counts!
