► We celebrate 75 years of the Basic Law together – TU joins declaration
On 23 May 1949, the Basic Law, the foundation of our coexistence in a free and democratic constitutional state, was adopted. We also want to celebrate this anniversary at TU Braunschweig and commemorate our fundamental values together. All TU members are invited to attend a speech by the President, the AStA and the staff representatives on 23 May at 12 noon on University Square. In this context, the TU Executive Board emphatically endorses a “Declaration for Democracy and Diversity in Germany and Europe” formulated in Braunschweig together with trade unions, employers’ associations, the IHK and the Chambers of Crafts and Trades.
► State funds joint Wolfsburg campus with 11.5 million euros
TU Braunschweig is developing the new campus together with OHLF, Ostfalia and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The objectives are research into the circular economy in the automotive industry as well as study, further education and transfer programmes. Prof. Joachim Schachtner (MWK) presented the funding decision on 15 May as part of the international “Circularity Days” in Wolfsburg.
► Student house receives award in Barcelona
This time an award on an international stage: the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, EUmies, was accepted by the architects Gustav Düsing and Max Hacke as well as Torsten Markgräfe, Bettina Nöhren and Prof Tatjana Scheider from the TU. With this award, our student house made it into the “heute Journal”.
► Communicating on “X” stopped
As the increasing spread of false information, hate speech and agitation on the social media platform “X” is not compatible with the values of our university, we have stopped our communication via the official TU Braunschweig profile on “X” this week. We are still represented on LinkedIn, Mastodon, Facebook and Instagram and look forward to a respectful and open exchange there.
► Microelectronics gets a new boost
TU Braunschweig and the University of Hanover are pooling their microelectronics expertise in the “Wissenschaftsraum Mikroelektronik” (Microelectronics Science Area). With funding of three million euros from the Volkswagen Foundation and the MWK, they want to jointly develop new collaborative projects and design an international degree programme.
► Sustainability: TU Braunschweig supports SMEs
For a sustainable future, companies are required to implement technological solutions in line with the European Green Deal. In order to better assess the opportunities, researchers in the “greenSME”project have developed methods for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
► Congratulations …
… to Gunnar Schulz-Lehnfeld from the Institute of Architectural History. The research assistant was honoured by the Koldewey-Gesellschaft – Vereinigung für Baugeschichtliche Forschung with the “Förderpreis für den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs” for his commitment to building research.
► A lively neighbourhood for Salzgitter-Thiede
Architecture students are exhibiting their visions for a sustainable neighbourhood on the Schäferberg in Salzgitter-Thiede in the town hall until 18 June. Their works were created at the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism. The three best designs were awarded prizes at the opening of the exhibition.
► Social Impact Festival
The Transfer Service Unit is organising the first “Social Impact Festival” on 5 June. Students and practice partners are invited to collect, discuss and implement ideas together. Municipal stakeholders, associations or small and medium-sized enterprises that are involved in social and ecological sustainability or are planning to do so are also very welcome.
► Visit from Brazil
Prof Marli Hatje and Prof Luciana Erina Palma from the Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil recently visited the Institute for Sport Science and Physical Education. They were part of a consultancy project aimed at revising the curricula for physical education teacher training at Santa Maria and other Brazilian universities.
► University information day provides information about study opportunities
What is it like to study at TU Braunschweig and what degree programmes are offered? The University Information Day on 24 May gives prospective students the opportunity to get to know campus life through taster lectures, guided tours, exchange opportunities and a variety of participatory activities organised by the faculties.
► The “Continuing education in university teaching” programme 2024/25 is here!
The programme of the Competence Centre for Higher Education Didactics in Lower Saxony (KHN) enables teachers to complete the “Lower Saxony State Certificate in Higher Education Teaching” and offers a selection of courses that support teaching staff in the rapidly developing (higher education) world.
► Impulse and exchange format for strategic leadership
The impulse and exchange format “Strategiekompass” will take place on 13 June from 11:00 to 12:30. Managers will have the opportunity to gain new impetus for strategic action in their area of work with the Strategic University Development Unit. Registrations until 30 May via StudIP.
► Anti Vs. Contra. Opposites and Contradictions
That’s what this semester’s lecture series for young academics is all about. The events take place on Thursdays at 18.30 on the North Campus. The lecture on 23 May is about “How a growth mindset contributes to the long-term learning success of children and young people”.
► Darling of the week
Our darling of the week is the first Alexander von Humboldt Professor at TU Braunschweig. For his excellent research in the field of microphotonics, Professor Daniel Prades and eleven other top international researchers each received the highest German research award, worth five million euros, in Berlin on 13 May. Prof Prades is moving from Barcelona to TU to support research at the Institute of Semiconductor Technology and in the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence. Congratulations and a warm welcome!
