► State supports top research and preparation for Excellence Strategy
The Ministry of Science and Culture of the German State of Lower Saxony wants to support universities in their application for the next round of the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments with the “ExzellenzStärken” programme. Minister Björn Thümler announced yesterday that TU Braunschweig was able to convince with its concept and received a funding recommendation under the programme.
► Home office regulation extended until 25 May 2022
Due to the continued high incidences in Braunschweig, employees of the TU Braunschweig may work on a mobile basis beyond the limit of 30 percent of the contractual weekly working hours after consultation with the respective manager until the expiry of the federal occupational health and safety regulation on 25 May.
► Realistic vehicle tests in frost and heat
On 28 April, Lower Saxony’s Science Minister Björn Thümler inaugurated the climate roller test stand at the Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFF). This large-scale device, which cost 4.9 million euros, enables researchers to analyse the efficiency of a vehicle under realistic conditions.
► Fascinated by the complexity of metabolism
Since mid-February, Professor Thekla Cordes has been teaching and researching in the field of cell metabolism at TU Braunschweig at BRICS. She focuses on researching the metabolism and how it influences human health.
► Histories from the Querumer Forst
Over the past few years, students and staff have worked through parts of the history of the Institute of Architecture-Related Art (IAK) in the seminar series “Inheritances”. They will be showing their results in an exhibition in the Architekturpavillon from 4 May. On 19 May, there will also be a symposium on the topic with scientists, artists and curators from various departments.
► IT Security Awareness Days 2022
From 2 to 19 May, the IT Security Awareness Days 2022 will once again focus on the topic of information security. All events are explicitly designed for people without an IT background! Dr Christian Böttger, Information Security Officer (CISO) at TU Braunschweig and organiser, gives an overview of this year’s programme.
► Vaccinations on campus
The mobile vaccination team will once again be making a stop on campus from 2 to 6 May. At the vaccination campaign in front of the Old Building, first, second and booster vaccinations will be offered.
► Saving energy together
Professor Martin Korte, member of the Energy Advisory Board and head of the Institute of Zoology, explains in an interview what saving energy has to do with the right mindset and teamwork. ► QuantumFrontiers and QVLS at the Laser World of Photonics
Since Tuesday, our quantum alliances have been networking at the world’s leading trade fair for the photonics industry and the associated scientific conferences. Especially the TU’s expertise in semiconductor technology and CMOS design is in high demand at the event.
► Farewell to Katrin Stump
Katrin Stump has been the Senior Library Director of our university library since 2014. This week she is leaving the TU Braunschweig to take up her new position as Director General of the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) on May 1. The university management thanks her for her highly professional commitment and wishes her every success for her new tasks in Dresden.
► Supporting cooperation projects between science and industry
With this call, the Ministry for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK) would like to promote cooperative research projects between science and industry. Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis, initially until June 1. Funding will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis until the funding is exhausted.
► Darling of the week
Our darlings of the week are actually just spending a day with us at TU Braunschweig. A total of 211 pupils took the opportunity to spend their Future Day 2022 at more than 20 TU institutes and facilities and to find out about their dream jobs. We hope they had a lot of fun and that we were able to inspire them to study or train at our university!
