► A sign to end violence against women

… is set today at 13.30 on the University Square. As part of the KNOW MORE campaign, a red bench will be set up to draw attention to gender-specific violence. After short speeches by our president Angela Ittel and representatives of the AStA and activists of migrantifa, the bench will be inscribed with the word “No” in different languages. Everyone is invited to take part in the action.

► Saving energy in everyday university life: new poster series

Raise the blinds, let the sun in! Ventilate properly with intermittent ventilation and switch off standby mode – these and other energy-saving tips are included in the bilingual poster series for printing.

► Resource Cultural Heritage

Together with the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, the Institute for Building Climatics and Energy in Architecture is drawing attention to the transfer potential of heritage conservation for climate-friendly building preservation. On the occasion of the exhibition starting on 28 November, Professor Elisabeth Endres reports on what we can learn from cultural heritage for building in the future.

► MasterClass on quantum computers started

Students from Braunschweig’s Wilhelm-Gynmasium took part in the first lesson on quantum computing. With the new format of the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers, they learn how to programme a cloud-based quantum computer.

► A warm welcome

We welcome Professor Terörde! He heads the new Chair for Mobile Electric Energy Systems at the Institute for Electromagnetic Compatibility. His goal is to use his research to advance the energy transition through the electrification of vehicles. He is focusing on on-board networks for ships, satellites, automobiles – and aircraft in the SE²A cluster.

► DFG research group “Metrology for THz Communications” extended

In order to make speeds of 100 gigabits per second and higher technically possible, a new approach is needed in communications technology. The research group “Meteracom” is dedicated to this topic and has now been supported by the DFG for another three years.

► Master’s degree programmes in the lead

In this year’s CHE ranking, the Master’s programmes in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Psychology were evaluated. All of them were awarded top places in individual categories.

► Digital teaching: almost the same, only in green

In the Corona pandemic, digital teaching was the only way to keep teaching going for months. The question is how to implement digital formats efficiently without spending a lot of time on video productions. In a studio in the computer science building, it’s easy to do.

► Congratulations

… to Professor Holger Hopp! He received the ACTFL Paul Pimsleur Award for an article in the “Modern Language Journal” from the BMBF-funded project “MEG-SKoRE”. The prize is awarded by the American Convention of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

… also to Sabine C. Langer. The professor from the Institute of Acoustics was recently appointed president of the scientific society by the German Society for Acoustics (DEGA).

► Students awarded for universal antigen detection system

The iGEM team of TU Braunschweig has won a silver medal with the project “LionDetect” at the Grand Jamboree in Paris. Today at 16.30. Melina Nowak and Sina Huxhagen will give the project presentation at BRICS. LionDetect is designed to detect not only the smallest amounts of tumor markers, but also viruses or other antigens.

► Teaching of tomorrow

The topic of the digital DICE Conference, which will take place from 30 November to 02 December at TU Braunschweig, is how teachers and students from all over the world want to shape international teaching in the future. Registration is still possible until 29 November.

► “The unwritten rules on campus”

… is the topic of the workshop and networking event for PhD students and postdocs with non-academic family backgrounds of GradTUBS and the Postdoc Programme on8 December. Registrations are still possible.

► Fast Forward Science

The tenth round of the multimedia competition for science “Fast Forward Science” has started. Entries are sought on all social media channels that creatively communicate current research. Proposals can be submitted online until 07 February.

► Darling of the week

Decorating the tree together is a Christmas tradition in most families. Those who don’t want to wait until Christmas Eve can decorate the Christmas tree on University Square in advance in the Sandkasten project “Er-leuchtet”. In addition to the community event, the sustainability aspect is in the foreground. Creative and environmentally friendly ideas for decorating the tree are welcome!
