► Jour Fixe of the administration

The second jour fixe of the year will take place on 18 June at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the House of Science (Pockelsstr. 11, 3rd floor). Topics on the agenda include the central alumni network and ‘Working in the summer heat’.

► CampusXperience: University Sports Festival

On 22 June, between two and six p.m., more than twelve different sports groups will be inviting visitors to try out new sports such as spikeball, calisthenics and judo on the outdoor grounds on Franz-Liszt-Straße. A varied stage programme with performances by the Lindy Hop group, salsa dancers and more, as well as a wide range of food and drink, will round off the Sunday programme. Free childcare is also available.

► Award for excellent research environment

The Department of Work, Organisational and Social Psychology was one of ten teams to receive the first-ever award for the ‘Best Research Environment’. The prize, worth a total of €100,000, recognises commitment to inspiring and fair working conditions in science. Congratulations to Prof. Simone Kauffeld and her team!

► Are TikTok & Co. suitable for imparting knowledge?

In two studies, the Institute of Educational Psychology analysed whether and how short videos on social media platforms affect our way of thinking and learning. The results were published in the journal Computers & Education.

► Women in Architecture Festival

The Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences is taking part in the “Women in Architecture Festival” on 24 and 26 June with the feminist city walk ‘Braunschweig for all?’, an exhibition on equal opportunities and diversity in architecture, and a multi-generational discussion. The festival aims to raise the profile of the contributions of women and previously underrepresented groups nationwide.

► 30 researchers, 20 tables, 15 minutes

The “Salon der Wissenschaft” (Science Salon) will open its doors again on 18 June at the Trafo Hub. Around 30 scientists from ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. institutions will sit at 20 themed tables and discuss ideas with visitors in one-to-one conversations. From our university, the following will be present: Prof. Farsaneh Tabataba-Vakili, Prof. Matthias Tamm, Prof. Oliver Völkerink, Dr. Marie Ritter, Dr. Hannes Müller-Thomy and Dr. Constantin Schweiger. ► ‘Tour de Projects’ for a Better Climate

On 14 June, the Co-Adapted Braunschweig project team and participating initiatives will present six pilot projects for climate adaptation on a guided bike tour through Braunschweig. The tour will also offer tips and tricks for implementation and replication. Join the team on the bike tour!

► Visit from Purdue University

In early June, a delegation from Purdue University visited TU Braunschweig. The visit focused on discussions about a new joint dual-degree program in aerospace engineering.

► Short survey ‘Travelling light’

As part of the ‘Travelling light’ project to improve internal processes, a short survey on the need to optimise forms used in everyday university work is running until 30 June. The project team welcomes the participation of all TU members who regularly work with forms.

► Continuing Education Programme for all employees

The continuing education programme offered by Central Human Resources Development once again includes many new and proven seminars and information events, especially for new employees at TU Braunschweig. Registration for the second half of the year will open on 19 June at 10 a.m.

► Quality Management Network at TU Braunschweig

The Internal Audit and Organisational Development Department plans to gradually establish a quality management network at TU Braunschweig. Employees in administration and quality management are invited to share their experiences and exchange best practices. Anyone interested in joining the network can register here.

► Scholarship programme to support postdoctoral researchers and junior professors

The Daimler and Benz Foundation is once again offering two-year scholarships for young scientists with a doctorate in all disciplines who are in the early stages of their scientific careers. Applicants must have their own research project and be affiliated with a scientific institution in Germany or a German scientific institution abroad. The total amount of funding is €40,000. The deadline is 1 October.

► ERC announces changes to its 2026 work programme

To provide early guidance to applicants, the ERC has published information on the 2026 work programme, including changes to the application and evaluation procedures. The 2026 work programme is expected to be published in July. If you have any questions about the changes, please contact the NCP ERC team or the Research Service.

► Award for the Institute of Sports Science and Physical Education

The Institute of Sports Science and Physical Education received the special prize from the Lower Saxony Sports Association as part of the ‘Lower Saxony Integration Prize 2025’ for its project ‘BuS (Movement and Language Support): movement-related German as a Second Language (DaZ) programmes for primary schools’. Congratulations!

► Diabetes research: DDG doctoral award goes to Dr Melissa Asuaje Pfeifer

Dr. Melissa Asuaje Pfeifer from the Institute of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Clinical Pharmacy has received the Doctoral Award from the German Diabetes Society (DDG) for her dissertation. Her research focuses on the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes and the mechanisms underlying the development of prediabetes. Congratulations!

► SE²A: Reading ‘windstark’ at the research airport

On 27 June at 5:30 p.m., the SE²A Cluster of Excellence will present a special reading: Graff bookshop will be visiting the Institute of Fluid Mechanics (ISM) and the Institute of Flight Propulsion and Gas Machines (IFAS). The event on sustainable flying of the future will include guided tours of the institutes and a themed reading.

► Future Forum on Public Safety in Berlin – Exchange between academia and politics

The Research Forum on Public Safety, led by the Department of Psychology of Socio-Technical Systems at the Institute of Psychology, together with the Future Forum on Public Safety, hosted an event at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research on 5 June. The aim was to discuss how the culture of safety is changing, what challenges are emerging and how they can be addressed.

► Summer holiday programme at TU

For all parents who are still looking for a summer holiday programme for their children, the FIBS platform offers three formats at TU Braunschweig: ‘Lust auf Forschen’ (10-14 years) – a cooperation project between physics education, biodiversity education and German language education, ‘Einstieg in den klassischen 3D-Druck’ (ages 15–18) – in collaboration with the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence – and a design workshop on sustainable construction with 3D printing at the TRR 277 AMC Collaborative Research Centre (ages 13–16).
