► Constructing timber buildings fireproof
Fire protection in timber construction and the effects of digitalisation on fire protection planning are the focus of the 36th Braunschweiger Brandschutz-Tage. The Institute of Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety invites to the conference on 15 and 16 September.
► “AeonDroid” wants to teach robots to grip
The TU Braunschweig and the start-up Aeon Robotics are jointly researching a platform that allows robots to learn gripping movements from humans. This should automate cleaning and maintenance work, for example.
► Congratulations…
… to Alexander Henkes from the Institute for Computational Modeling in Civil Engineering! Henkes was elected junior member of the Association for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM). This honors his outstanding contributions in the field of artificial intelligence.
► Online decision-making tool “WahlSwiper” for the state election
By swiping, voters can use WahlSwiper to find their party of choice for the state elections on 9 October. On their smartphone, tablet or notebook, they can check whether their personal political views match the party programmes.
► Inheritances – on the traces of an institute
Layer by layer, students and staff of the Institute of Architecture-Related Arts have uncovered the history of the institute. After showing the results in an exhibition, the book “Inheritances” has now been published. It will be presented on 19 September.
► Water in garden and city
The 1st Braunschweig City Green Day on 10 September will focus on the question of how gardens in Braunschweig can be supplied with water in the future. In addition to Prof. Tatjana Schneider from the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture and the City, the Institute for Geophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics and the AStA Ecology Section are also involved in the conference.
► Shit happens in science
“Have you ever experienced injustice in science?”, asks the Institute of Psychology. The team led by Prof. Beate Muschalla is researching how scientists react to different problem situations and asks all researchers to participate in the study on dealing with dilemma situations.

► Scholarships for female PhD students
Professors, together with the female doctoral candidates they supervise at TU Braunschweig, can apply to the Equal Opportunity Office by 30 September for a doctoral degree grant. The prerequisite is that the doctorate has been delayed for family reasons or for reasons of particular hardship and the previous funding has expired.
► Surveys on the automated family car
The development of the automated vehicle autoELFE is part of the UNICARagil project. The colleagues at the Institute of Psychology want to find out what requirements such a car should fulfill – from the point of view of older people aged 65 and over who no longer drive themselves, and from the point of view of parents with underage children.
► Darling of the week
Our darling of the week this time is not someone from our university, but the firefighters and fire-fighting aircraft teams who were on duty at the forest fire at Brocken. The yellow planes could also be seen over our campus again and again in the past few days. Many thanks for this mission!
