► World Quantum Day: from lightsabers to time travel

From 8 to 14 April, you can immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the quantum with a varied programme in Braunschweig and the surrounding region. For those who have always wanted to know how realistic science fiction films are, we recommend the Science Watch Party “Physics in Hollywood” on 14 April at TU Braunschweig. 

► Road Construction with Bioasphalt

Scientists from the Braunschweig Pavement Engineering Center (ISBS) together with researchers from TU Wien and the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences are working on a research project to develop a bioasphalt. In this project, sustainable biological binders will replace conventional fossil bitumen. The project is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation with around 707,000 euros.

Filigree, light, material-efficient

Our picture of the month shows a filigree bridge – developed in the Collaborative Research Centre “Additive Manufacturing in Construction” (AMC) using “Injection 3D Concrete Printing”. The 3D printing process enables lightweight structures that were previously impossible with concrete.

► Braunschweig receives new Leibniz ScienceCampus

The new Leibniz ScienceCampus “Evolutionary Ecology of Zoonotic Pathogens during Agricultural Transformations” is located at the Leibniz Institute DSMZ in Braunschweig. DSMZ, HZI, TU Braunschweig and other partners are researching pathogens and the mechanisms that enable their adaptation to the environment and facilitate the transition to humans.

► Inaugural lecture

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Pannek, Institute for Intermodal Transport and Logistics Systems, will hold his Inaugural lecture „Von Verkehr zu Mobilität” on 10 April.

►  Travelling exhibition ‘Afrotopia NDS’

The travelling exhibition ‘Afrotopia NDS’ will be on display at the University Library from 2 April to 30 April. The exhibition is part of the Focus 2024: racism-critical university and portrays five well-known black personalities from Lower Saxony who present their individual success stories. Through their perspectives, visitors can see resistance, obstacles and inspiring moments of self-assertion against racism and intersectional discrimination.

► Mental Health First Aid

The Mental Health First Aid Programme pilot project offers researchers at TU Braunschweig the opportunity to seek support in the form of first aid talks with qualified employees and to cope with stressful situations.

► Innovation Forum

The Braunschweig Innovation Forum on 11 April is all about 3D printing. Researchers at the Centre for Additive Manufacturing at Ostfalia University in Wolfenbüttel and the Digital Building Fabrication Laboratory at TU Braunschweig will be opening the doors to their laboratories and demonstrating live what is possible with additive manufacturing.

► Elections Main Staff Council

Elections for the Main Staff Council of the Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) will take place on 9 and 10 April. You can vote on 9 April from 9.00 to 15.00 at the polling station in the Forum building and from 11.30 to 14.30 at the Mensa Beethovenstraße and on 10 April from 9.00 to 14.30 at the E-Technik building and from 11.30 to 15.00 at IFF/Seminarraum 2. The lists of candidates are published on the Infoportal.

► School in the Bahnstadt district

Architecture students are showing their designs for a primary school in the Bahnstadt district of Braunschweig in the town hall until 18 April. The students’ projects were developed at the Institute for Design and Architectural Strategies (IDAS). They are based on the results of the urban design competition for the Central Freight Station.

► PostDoc Programme

The Professional and Personal Development Postdoc Programme for the summer term is online. Here you will find sessions on topics such as supervising doctoral students, career planning, research data management and presentation techniques.

► Julius Kühn Institute’s citizen science project

The Julius Kühn Institute’s “Garden Abundance” citizen science project aims to record flowering plants in Braunschweig’s domestic and allotment gardens. Plants can be photographed using an additional feature of the Flora Incognita app. The data collected will be used to support wild bees.

► German Research Fair

On 11 and 12 April, the Research Service will inform Japanese students about study programmes and job offers at the TU with a presentation and exhibition stand at the virtual “German Research Fair” of the DAAD and the DWIH Tokyo.

► Our Darling of the week

… greets all first-year students with an Instagram reel of the Welcome Week for internationals students and wishes them a great start. Last week, the Internationals were welcomed with workshops, campus tours, information sessions, excursions and a welcome in the Dornse by the city. Thank you to everyone who was involved in getting our newcomers off a good start!
