Shaping the future: New Senate of TU Braunschweig takes up work

With the beginning of the summer semester, the term of office of the newly composed Senate at TU Braunschweig begins. The highest body of academic self-administration, which plays a decisive role in advising on and shaping the academic and structural development of the university, met for the first time yesterday, 2 April 2025, for its constituent session

“In the coming years, crucial decisions will have to be made – from implementing the Ecoversity initiative to deciding on key infrastructure measures. It is important that we join forces in these times and work constructively to shape the future of our university,” says TU President Prof. Dr. Angela Ittel.

The members of the Senate take office for a two-year term ending on 31 March 2027. In its capacity as a central decision-making body, alongside the Executive Board and the University Council, the Senate is involved in the strategic orientation, the design of the basic order, as well as the equal opportunities plan and the development plan of the TU. It has a comprehensive right to information and a say vis-à-vis the presidium and comments on all matters of self-administration. In the coming term of office, the Senate will focus on a number of topics that are of great importance for the further development of the university. These include, among other things, the implementation of the Ecoversity initiative, the realisation of construction projects and the search for solutions to the renovation backlog.

The Senate meets about once a month in a session that is open to university members – as far as space permits. In order to enable as many members of TU Braunschweig as possible to participate in the meeting in hybrid form in the future, a technical solution is currently being worked on and will then be installed in the Senate Hall. The Senate also meets in a non-public part, in which voting takes place on appointment matters.
