Baton change of the Senate The outgoing Senate is bid farewell - the new Senate takes up work
Two Senate meetings took place on 15 March. The last meeting of the outgoing Senate and the constituting meeting of the new Senate. The Senate is involved in the important decisions of TU Braunschweig and takes a stand on issues concerning TU Braunschweig.
President Angela Ittel, who chairs the Senate, took this opportunity to express her thanks. “This is a special Senate meeting as it is the last meeting of the current Senate and the constituting meeting of the new Senate. I would like to thank you all for your commitment and constructive cooperation over the past two years. I was very pleased that the Senate always constructively accompanied the work of the Executive Board as well as the challenges and new topics of the last few years, especially in the area of university development.”
The past term of office saw enormous challenges for TU Braunschweig. “In addition to the strategic discussions on the cross-cutting issues of holistic development, sustainability has increasingly come to the fore as an important topic. In addition, we had to deal with the energy crisis and take drastic measures,” says President Angela Ittel.
The term of office of the outgoing Senate was initially characterised by the regulations surrounding Corona and the associated changes to the examination regulations, such as the introduction of online examinations as well as the free attempt regulations.
A selection of the Senate’s other tasks in the 2021-2023 legislative period are:
The amendment of the Basic Regulations as well as the amendment of the Election Regulations, which enabled online voting, the establishment of new degree programmes, the election of two additional Vice-Presidents and the confirmation of the three previous Vice-Presidents as well as the decision to appoint a full-time Vice-President for Digitisation and Sustainability and the associated establishment of the selection committee. The Senate has also appointed another selection committee to nominate the members of the University Council for its new term of office (2023-2027).
Strategic orientation also occupies the new Senate
President Angela Ittel then welcomed the new Senate: “I am looking forward to the constructive exchange in the next term of office, especially on the upcoming topics that will also accompany us in the current term of office, such as the strategic orientation of TU Braunschweig, the potential analysis of the Lower Saxony university landscape as well as the activities within the framework of our model of holistic development and, of course, all initiatives around the next round of the Excellence Initiative.”
The first tasks for the election period of the new Senate from 2023-2025* have already been determined: the term of office includes the election or confirmation of the Vice President for Human Resources, Finance and Infrastructure.
