99 Deutschlandstipendien awarded 356,400 euros in funding for talented students at TU Braunschweig

99 students at Technische Universität Braunschweig are being supported with a Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship). They come from different disciplines and each receive 300 euros per month for one year. This year the funding amount is 178,200 euros. With the increase in the scholarship sum by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, a total of 356,400 euros could thus be awarded.

The sponsors and scholarship holders were honoured at a scholarship ceremony on 2 February 2023. The 99 sponsored students come from all faculties of TU Braunschweig. The focus is on engineering subjects. A total of 450 students applied for the scholarships. The selection criteria for awarding Deutschlandstipendien are primarily performance and talent. In addition, voluntary commitment, a sense of responsibility and personal circumstances are taken into account in the awarding process.

In addition to financial support, the Deutschlandstipendium also promotes inter-faculty exchange between the scholarship holders so that new networks can be created. 39 sponsors, including companies, foundations, associations and private individuals, provided scholarships. Some sponsors are already participating for the twelfth time and have been doing so since the programme began in 2011.

Deutschlandstipendium as an opportunity

Katja Koch, Vice-President for Organisational Development and Teacher Training at TU Braunschweig, highlighted the opportunities offered by the Deutschlandstipendium in her welcome address: “We are pleased that our scholarship holders have the opportunity to network, meet new people and make important contacts for their professional future through the scholarship programme.”

Laura Baden, who is studying German Studies and Protestant Theology to become a primary school teacher, is being supported by the Deutschlandstipendium for the second time: “In the summer semester of 2023, I will start my Master’s thesis phase and I know that this will be a new challenge for me. Already with my last sponsorship, the scholarship made it much easier for me to write my Bachelor’s thesis!”

Henning Karsten, Fundraising Advisor at TU Braunschweig, emphasises that the Deutschlandstipendium offers a wide range of students the opportunity to be sponsored: “Good applications from all students from all disciplines are welcome. It doesn’t always have to be a straight A average to be supported by a scholarship.”

About the Deutschlandstipendium

The Deutschlandstipendium is a programme of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in which every euro donated by private individuals, companies and foundations is doubled by the BMBF. The selected students receive a monthly scholarship amount of 300 euros over two semesters. In addition to financial support, the programme also focuses on ideational support for the students. The sponsors offer opportunities to get to know each other, to find out more and to network.
